A Closer Look at the new Canon G12
Canon's PowerShot G12 is one of those Point & Shoot digital cameras that is so much more than a Point & Shoot. The G12's predecessors have been a popular choice by professional photographers as their "carry around all the time" digital camera, and we're sure that the G12 will not disappoint.
The G12 utilizes a 10MP High Sensitivity CCD image sensor and Canon's proprietary DIGIC 4 image processor to reduce noise. The new control dial on the front of the camera is akin to the dial placement on Canon DSLRs, so users of both will feel that the G12 is as familiar in their hands as their DSLR.
Features of the camera include an ISO range up to 3200, 720p HD video recording, a full range of shooting and recording modes, a 5x optical zoom with image stabilization, a built-in flash and hot-shoe, 2.8-inch LCD as well as real-image optical viewfinder, and now an HDR (high dynamic range) scene mode. When shooting video footage, the new Miniature Effect will allow users to create really unique videos.
Other features include exposure compensation and flash exposure compensation, a self-timer, a full compliment of White Balance settings to choose from, and much more. The G12 writes JPG and RAW images to SD/SDHC/SDXC and MMC/MMC Plus/HC MMC Plus media cards. An HDMI port allows for connectivity to HDTVs for playback of stills and video.
Optional accessories include Canon Speedlite flashes, an underwater housing and a tele-converter lens.
Canon is scheduled to ship the G12 in early October for an estimated price of $499.99. For more info, go to www.usa.canon.com.
