We tend to forget that there are still many beginners coming into using video with a DSLR, we tend to cover things that are for the advanced filmmaker, but we also realize for those people just starting out you need help too - so when Travis pointed me to this basic introduction over on vimeo, I thought it was a great topic for a post. It was created for the Canon Rebel T2i/550D (reviews), but it applies to all HDSLR cameras for the most part. Our thanks to --jL on vimeo for letting us post these!
