News in brief: New tablet-friendly toys from Adobe
Adobe let loose a whole swathe of swanky new toys into the aether yesterday. The focal point is the Creative Cloud, where content from the shiny new Touch Apps (more on those in a minute) together with the Creative Suites can be viewed, shared, and synced. It includes 20GB of cloud storage so that whether you’re working from your desktop or your tablet, your creative endeavours are at your fingertips.
Adobe has said that ‘It will quickly develop into a service that will deliver access to Adobe’s flagship creative applications and services and become an essential resource for anyone interested in creativity – all at a highly attractive price.’ Problem is, a price hasn’t yet been announced so we can’t judge just how attractive it is.
As for the Touch Apps, there’s a gaggle of them, but the one that we’re most likely interested in is Photoshop Touch. It has all the core functions of the Photoshop that we know and love, made suitable for touch devices. So there’s a Scribble Selection tool that allows you to choose what you want to keep and what you want to lose from an image. And because doing something like selecting soft-edged features – maybe hair – with your finger isn’t exactly easy, there’s Refine Edge technology to help you along.
What’s the point of having all this fabulous Cloud integration if you can’t share your work on Facebook? They’ve thought of that one, though. And naturally enough you can synch your work with the Cloud and then open it up in the grown-up version of Photoshop, too. Doesn’t it all link very neatly with Adobe Carousel?
The release date for the Touch Apps is sometime in November for Android and early 2012 for iOS, but again there’s no word on price. Ah well, we’ll find out soon enough.
