Are These Really the "Best" Photo Products?
Not everyone will agree with the TIPA panel's decisions
Every year, the Technical Image Press Association meets to vote for the best photographic and imaging products. This group, consisting of 29 photo magazines from around he world, met on April 9, 2011 in Istanbul and voted for the best product in each category. The full list of 2011 winners -- and the panel's rationale for each -- has been published on the TIPA web site http://www.tipa.com/english/XXI_tipa_awards_2011.php?iExpand1=62
Some of their choices make a great deal of sense while others seem questionable. It appears that priority was given to products released in the past 12 months. (This is not specified on the TIPA web site, however.) Apparently this is the reason why some of the most desirable cameras, lenses, etc. did not receive any mention. Of course, some of the current products were winners in previous years' TIPA Awards.
It's tough to argue with some of the 2011 award recipients such as the following:
Best Professional Lens Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM
Best D-SLR Advanced Nikon D7000
Best Compact System Camera Expert Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2
Best Expert Photo Printer (A3/A2) Epson Stylus Photo R3000
On the other hand, some of the panel's choices may lead to heated debate. Do note however that very few products in certain categories were released in the past 12 months. That allowed for an easy win for some items.
Do you agree with all of TIPA's choices? Which make the most sense and which are questionable in your opinion?
