Canon 550D reviews round-up
Last week we looked at the new Nikon D3100. Seeing as the Nikon was released in direct competition to the Canon 550D (that’s a Rebel T2i for you USians), we thought that having a look at what the reviews had to say about the 550D might be a good idea. All-in-all, they have been streams of unremitting positivity, but now that the Nikon has arrived on the scene, has it changed the game a bit? We’ll leave you to do the compare and contrast exercise!
Camera Labs says ‘Ultimately much of the EOS 550D / T2i’s appeal lies in its flexible movie capabilities, and it’s great to have not only the 7D’s choice of frame rates, but also manual control over exposures and an external microphone input. If these features are important to you, then the 550D / T2i lets you enjoy them at a lower price than ever before.’ – Read the full review on Camera Labs.
CNET UK says ‘The Canon EOS 550D is a great little camera to use and, on paper at least, it blows the competition away.’ – Read the full review on CNET UK.
Digital Photography Review says ‘With all this taken into account, it is hard not to recommend the EOS 550D. Quite simply, taken as a whole, it is the best camera of its class that we’ve ever seen, and one of those rare cameras that won’t look out of date in a couple of years’ time.’ – Read the full review on Digital Photography Review.
ePHOTOzine says ‘Overall the performance of this camera is excellent, and will find many fans whether they be interested in still, or video, or both.’ – Read the full review on ePHOTOzine.
PhotographyBLOG says ‘As far as we are concerned, we have found the Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i to be a convincing, well-put-together product that easily earns a Highly Recommended rating.’ – Read the full review on PhotographyBLOG.
Pocket-lint says ‘Impressive image performance is paired with hardware specs that will widely appeal. You don’t get all the bells and whistles, but those elements that are missing really are high-end features.’ – Read the full review on Pocket-lint.
Stuff says ‘Not the cheapest entry-level DSLR but the sheer breadth of abilities makes it an instant classic.’ – Read the full review on Stuff.
T3 says ‘With crisp, clear and moreover colourful images delivered by combination of sensor and kit lens, the 550D offers all that’s expected of a consumer-targeted DSLR right now, and more.’ – Read the full review on T3.
TechRadar says ‘The EOS 550D is something of a triumph. Shoot in RAW, invest in some decent back-up lenses and spend time studying the various exposure modes and options, and the EOS 550D will reward you with pro-quality images at a mass-market price. And you’ll be able to record quality HD home movies too. What’s not to like?’ – Read the full review on TechRadar.
