Ahhhh! The Joy of Christmas…Hanukkah…and the Holiday Season!

Who could not love those few weeks before the big holiday? The night takes on a whole new brightness as we decorate the world with light. I have a preference for the straightforward, unexpected and humble displays of colored lights.  Colored lights seem so much more cheerful. I am much more fascinated with those lights that promote the spirit of togetherness rather than those that are meant to lure us into shopping malls and mega-marts.

In the Gallery above, is a sampling of festive holiday lights captured near my home in Upstate NY over the past week or so.

This season, I've been shooting nighttime HDR in an attempt to capture the full color and detail of a small portion of this annual luminous transformation.

This seems to be the one time of the year that we open ourselves to the ideas that there should be more humanity in this world. Wouldn't it be great to have that spirit with us every moment of every day throughout the year!

May the season fill us with goodness, an appreciation for all life and openness to all cultures. May it bring sanity back into our thinking and love into our hearts.

Happy Holidays! …And PEACE to everyone, everywhere!

"There is a retro trend evident in current fashion, in the renewed interest in vinyl records, and in smartphone apps that take crisp, high-resolution digital images that look like they were taken with a Brownie box camera and developed in a darkroom. This book is just the thing for retro camera app devotees who want to go a step or two further. Fine-art photographer Neel presents all manner of camera equipment alteration projects, alternative processes, and playful photographic tricks, often combining digital and analog processes. This is a modern guide that incorporates older tools with great creative effect." - Library Journal 12/11
