Digital Filters in Postproduction

Your Favorite Filter in Digital Form

It’s not just colored filters for black and white photography that have digital equivalents, some of the most popular camera filters for traditional film photography are available in digital forms as well.

The polarizing filter eliminates reflections from non-metallic surfaces, increases color saturation and can enhance an image’s overall contrast. The effect of the filter can be easily seen in the camera’s viewfinder and all you have to do us turn the filter until the desired effect is achieved. Polarizers can be used to improve images in both color and black-and-white photography. Many manufacturers also offer Warm Polarizers that combine aspects of a polarizing filter with that of a warming filter.

The nik Polarization filter is part of the filters in the Nik Color Efex Pro collection and is a Photoshop-compatible plug-in. The Polarization filter emulates the color contrasts that are affected with a conventional polarization filter to enhance blue skies and similar colors, while optimizing the contrast in an image. With nik’s Polarization filter, the blue in sky (or water) can be intensified, while detail in clouds and similar structures can be increased.
