Digital Nude Art
The blend modes in Photoshop are remarkable tools They allow you to combine images in creative ways very quickly and painlessly. For example, I was able to apply paint to a nude without laboriously selecting her with the pen tool -- which is how I usually make precise selections.
Instead, I simply photographed the model against a white background. I then took a picture of various colors of paint mixed together (seen below), and in Photoshop I used Select > all and then Edit > copy. The image of the paint was now in the temporary (and invisible) holding place called the ‘clipboard’.
I pasted the paint image over the nude with Edit > paste, and then in the Layers palette I chose the hue blend mode. These modes are accessed in the submenu that is labeled ‘normal’. Near the bottom of this submenu is hue, and once this was selected the model was suddenly a work of art and the white background was visible.

I tried following along, but I am confused about what steps you took after selecting "hue". I attempted to keep my background white while only changing the color on the subject, like you did, but despite trying it about 6 different ways I was unsuccessful.
Edit:
Nevermind, I figured it out.
Good, Chris, I'm glad it worked out for you.

OK, this is weird - I really like the paint mix, on its' own. I've seen 'modern art' with less to offer.
