Digital Painting: Finding Colors
Study Color
It doesn't take much to inspire me to break out the color for my digital paintings. Even the most monochromatic image can inspire great colors. Here is a stock example of one I used as a photo reference.

When I found this photo I was struck by the strong composition and the lack of color. Hmmmmm......I was thinking. These mountains, snow and starkness need an infusion of fall fiery colors. So in looking at this image I began my own digital painting by seaching some of my favorite paintings on the internet. Once I found one that I loved the color palette I saved it for reference and used those colors to paint my own original. take on the scene.

Using inspirations from visuals is what it's all about in painting and same for digital painting. Whenever you look at pictures, paintings and other artwork, think about what you would like to see if you were painting it. You will be surprised how this will expand your eye and creativity.
