DVD Review "Lara Jade V. Joey L Photographer Shoot-off"
Lara Jade v. Joey L Shoot-off DVD Review
Most photography tutorials online are often boring and poor quality, making them hard to watch even if they are useful and educational. Such is not the case with this DVD.
Here we have two photographers, both very successful at a very young age, opening up and giving us complete access to their photography worlds.
The DVD is broken up into 4 "shoot-offs": Color Portrait, On Location, Photograph a Stranger, and Studio.
Within the sections each photographer goes through everything from planning the shoot, executing the shoot, and their unique styles of post production.
What's best about this DVD is that you have two young photographers with fairly fresh eyes and two unique styles approaching the same challenge in their own way. A good exercise after watching each section would be to go and do your own shoot on the theme.
I truly believe that every photographer can learn something from this DVD, whether you're a beginner or a lifetime pro. The price seems high at first ($199), however think about how much you would spend on a workshop where you're in a huge room with lots of other people, and you have to take notes if you want to remember everything the speaker says. With this DVD, you can watch it at your own pace, go back and re-watch sections (as I have quite a few times) and have it forever.
If you're a pro at photoshop, you can still learn something from Lara and Joey's pre-production, and interaction with their subjects. If you're great at working with models but want to learn a few great photoshop tricks there's plenty for you as well.
