Easy Underwater Video and Photography with a GoPro Hero HD Camera
You don't have to spend a lot of money to explore underwater nature with a camera

I just returned from a trip to the Bahamas. I knew we were going to a place there that was not known for above ground nature. However, it was by the ocean and I knew I could find good subjects there. I took along my underwater Olympus digital camera and also bought a GoPro Hero HD video camera. The GoPro is great for underwater video and it is not expensive.

You do need a wetsuit of some sort (I had what is sometimes called a "spring suit" -- an inexpensive wet suit that covers your body and has short sleeves and a shorts-like bottom) because you float a lot while snorkeling, not kicking, and even 70 degree water gets cold. Also, it helps to have a diving mask that has lens correction if you wear glasses (as I do).
The video below shows all about this underwater exploration with a camera. You can also see more of the underwater nature at www.natureandphotography.com.
On another note, my 2011 workshops are now up at www.robsheppardphoto.com. A couple related to nature that are coming up this spring include a workshop on photographing the spring wildflowers and their landscapes of the California Central Coast at Light Photographic Workshops and a workshop caravan through the great rock landscapes of Utah, from Arches National Park to Bryce Canyon and more with Juan Pons at Wild Nature Tours.
