Featured Pixiq Photographer: Johnny O
Welcome to our First Weekly Feature
About Johnny O:
There are many times that we look at our vehicle as purely a utilitarian means of transportation; it's the Grocery Getter, the Daily Driver or the Commuter. We forget that before we ever planted our rear in the driver seat, this vehicle started off as a chunk of molded clay in a designer's studio. Intricate lines cut into a mound began its trek to reality as a piece of art.
Johnny O has always looked at vehicles as art. Starting from a bedroom covered with car posters while he was growing up, he has continually surrounded himself with automotive images. It seemed a natural progression when he picked up a camera and began shooting the vehicles around him.
His professional career began over a decade ago when he was hired as Feature Editor of Sport Truck magazine. In his tenure in the editorial world he worked on staff or contributed to a half dozen different automotive magazines. Currently he owns his own business, Johnny O Photo & Design, providing editorial quality photos to a wide variety of clients.
Johnny O's approach to automotive photography is capturing the artistic quality of the vehicle, while creating a mood around it. His use of natural light, long exposures and his own style of post processing techniques, which include a mix of adjustment layers, exposure blending and shadow detail create an eye catching final result. His knack for picking the right background, be it a mansion, city scape or just a sky full of clouds always seems to compliment the vehicle.
