For the Festivus in All of Us: a WISE cosmic wreath
Nebula Christmas Cloud, Barnard 3.
Just in time for festivus in all of us, astronomers have come across a new image from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, which actually resembles a wreath. The red dust cloud appears as a cheery red bow, and the bluish-white stars glitter like silver bells. Baby stars are being born daily throughout this dusty region, while the "silver bell" stars are located both in front of, and behind, the beautiful nebula. So sprinkle that on your mistle toe and if you have an infrared camera, (and I do, but use it for scientific inquiry and yes, admittedly, some photography), well rock on.
Happy Holidays to all, whatever you celebrate, celebrate well in health, good fortune, and ever art. Light on ...
