GALLERY — Grand Canyon Tower by Mary Colter — 6 photos
Recent restorations, spectacular views, enchanting experience
Architect Mary Colter designed every interior and exterior feature in the extraordinary Desert View Tower near the eastern end of Grand Canyon's South Rim in Arizona, USA. The tower looks ancient, but it's approaching its 80th birthday with a beautiful restoration project.
These six photos take you from the dramatic exterior staircase entry into the gallery with Native American drawings on the wall. Look up! Almost every inch of the ceiling is painted.
Then look out at one of many dramatic views into and over the Grand Canyon.
Walk away from the tower and look back, with its upper section poised against a splendid Arizona sky.
Then, if you believe a little bit in ancient magic, catch the afternoon sun blasting out its reflection from the tower's upper window.
The Grand Canyon is a National Park. Get there early and stay late. The light and the rock forms are your friends. So is this tower.
All photos were taken with a hand held consumer point and shoot camera on automatic setting. Adobe Photoshop CS5 was used gently to prepare the images for Pixiq. Additional Nemo galleries can be found here.
