Going Fast with Light

In outdoor photography, good light doesn’t have to slow you down. This eBook shows you how!

danbaileyebookcover.jpgGoing Fast with Light is a kind of... from Darkness to Revelation eBook as Dan Bailey goes. The author assumes, as many others have done before him, that he did not understand how to use flash properly, so he preferred... natural light. Then...

It's about discovering the use of flash that this eBook is all about. But while many other books are about the use of flash indoors, in studio, or sometimes in location, this is about the use of flash by an outdoor photographer that needs to pack the minimum possible and still be able to come home with pictures. That explains the title of the eBook: Going Fast with Light.

Dan Bailey is  a full time professional adventure, outdoor and location photographer since 1996. He teaches photography courses online at The Compelling Image and he writes about photography on The Photoletariat and on his own blog. He’s also a budding bush pilot.

He covers a lot of different activities, and to do that he needs to carry along all his gear. But that does not mean he is lugging a big bag with a ton of gear. In fact, Dan Bailey says that "it doesn’t matter if I’m on a mountain excursion, a bike ride, a multi-day assignment, or a photo shoot just off the parking lot, when it comes to camera gear, I only take what I can carry by myself in one load. This includes lighting gear. With the variety of subjects that I shoot, whether it be adventure, travel or people, I find it invaluable to try and carry a small flash rig with me wherever I go, because I never know when it might come in handy. And believe me, it does!"

danbaileyebook02.jpgKnowing exactly that take with you can be a science in itself, many of us know from our own adventures packing gear for a day out or a longer trip. We skip something that when in the field we discover could be a god asset... and we take things that sometimes just make weight in the backpack.

It's at this point that Dan Bailey eBooks comes in your rescue. The photographer says that "over the years, I’ve developed a number of systems that work for me and my adventurous, quick moving style. And as I look around these days, I see a growing number of outdoor shooters like me, who are also interested in exploring the use of off camera flash, but who haven’t quite figured out how to effectively and seamlessly blend it with their own particular style."

Unfortunately, continues Dan Bailey, "some people have the notion that active outdoor photography and lighting just don’t mix. The gear is too heavy. Too encumbering. The techniques are too slow. I’m here to prove them wrong.".

danbaileyebook01.jpgThe 80 page eBook is both a guide to help you choose the right gear to take with you for different situations and an helping and to get you in the right direction when it comes to using it. Dan Bailey shows through his own photos in the field that your imagery will benefit from the occasional use of flash. And he states that the key for it all " is learning how to build a diverse set of gear and skills so that you can shoot with speed and confidence."

The author says that although he absolutely loves the beauty and the unpredictability of constantly changing light, there are times when a flash does enhance the photo. So, he decided to write a book to teach people how to apply flash and strobist-style lighting techniques to your outdoor photography, and more importantly, how to do this without burdening yourself with too much gear. The truth is that strobes make a difference, but they don’t have to slow you down.

From strobes to reflectors and diffusers, from clamps to other ways to support flash units in the field, not forgetting how it all works, and some tricks to make your life easier in the field, Dan Bailey goes through the whole lot of things you need to know and understand to get a new vision about the use of flash in outdoors photography. And still Go Fast with Light because, as the whole title of the eBook claims, this is  A Flash Guide for Outdoor Photographers Because good light doesn’t have to slow you down. And it can be yours for  $12.95. Buy your copy now!
