Happy Thanksgiving
Creating the "Family Dinner" Portrait
One of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving. As a kid I practiced taking pictures of my family during the holidays and those memories help to create new images today. When asked to photograph a family portrait recently I called upon my early childhood memories to create this image of a family gathered around the table at dinner.
I wanted to create an image that was fun and that the kids would remember for years to come. Normally young children will loose patience when asked to sit or stand still and simply smile. To be honest I think that approach is a bit out-dated. Why should pictures look the same decade after decade?
The concept for "Family Dinner" was to simple have the family around the table multiple times to create a large family affair where everyone is having dinner and enjoying family time. The children really got a kick out of playing around and dressing up in different cloths. To be honest the adults probably had more fun than the kids. Take a close look at each of the images as I directed the family to pretend they were talking to themselves across the table. Imagine what you can do by creating your own version of family portraits this Thanksgiving.
Photographs capture life's fleeting moments but the memory of creating those moments will have your clients calling on you and referring you to all their freinds for a lifetime. This is definitely one of my favorite family portraits and I hope it sparks ideas for your photographs this thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
