Stock Photography: Humor Sells
Merry Christmas!
If you are interested in selling your photos in a stock photo agency, one of the best ways to get immediate return on your investment in time, creativity, and money is to come up with humorous ideas. Animals and babies in situations that make people chuckle will sell the best.
To get started, do some research. Search online for 'funny animal pictures' or 'babies humor'. There are many phrases you can come up with that will locate hundreds of images, and this will start you thinking about what you can do with your own unique style and sense of humor.
Next, you need to know Photoshop. Not all humorous images involve digital manipulation, but it is an incredible tool that will give your creativity its full expression. The rockhopper penguin I shot in the Falkland Islands, above, is a case in point. I had photographed a model dressed as Santa, and it took me about 20 minutes to dress the penguin appropriately for Christmas. Of course, Santa lives in the North Pole and penguins live near the South Pole, but who cares about details like that ...
The picture below is another example of a cute image that draws the eye, the emotions, and the sense of humor. These kinds of images sell for all kinds of uses -- calendars, ads, jigsaw puzzles, magazine covers, note cards, and so on. At a time when stock sales are at an all time low, this is one way to stay ahead of the game.
