Infringe Copyright on YouTube, Go to Copyright School
Google, who now owns YouTube, has long had a “three strikes” and you’re out rule when it comes to copyright violations on YouTube.
Not anymore, now it’s one strike and you are required to go to “Copyright School”. School is not that hard and luckily, it’s an at home course over the Internet. And it’s a cartoon to boot. But there is a quiz to see if you really attended. Not a bad idea, because otherwise you can set your computer to “watch” the class while you go burn a burger on the BBQ.
I applauded the effort. People are so used to the warnings on YouTube, it almost becomes just wallpaper, just like the FBI logo and warning that appears on every rented movie. My only complaint is that while this is a great start at educating people, it’s not a deep understanding. But copyright infringement being a complex issue overall, I don’t want to look a gift horse or moose (watch the video) in the mouth.
