Insta-Playtime: getting creative with Insta-Apps
Instabooth image
Okay, so it is officially summer: I have been photographing and not posting. But recently the amazing Marti Saltzman, ever pushing the photographic envelope, posted on Facebook about the incredibly fun app, Instabooth. I immediately fell in love with the app. You see, I had just returned from a 4-day holiday with my husband. At the NYS rest stops, we happened upon those old fashioned photo booths that take your picture, giving you 2 prints (instantly of course) for all of three bucks ($3.00). (And naturally, if you look deeply into who makes those wonderful little booths, it is no other than Apple. (No big surprise. They have taken their software Photo Booth and created a condensed version for the masses. Really, Steve Jobs is so hip.)
But anyway, I digress. So, I came home and saw Marti’s post on Facebook. And while I almost never buy apps, I caved. I had to have this one. But in case you have not figured this out yet, MOST of these apps, can pull in images right out of your IPhone Library and /or save images to your album so you can mix and match the effects. It is similar to what I talk about in my book, Digital Image Transfer: Creating Art With Your Photography where I play in between Photoshop, Studio Artist, Artmatic, Painter and then some until I have sufficiently teased out the image to satisfy my imagination. In these insta-images that is pretty much what I have done. For example, the Instabooth lets you pull in a single image (should you want) into your IPhoto album. Once you have done that, then you can open let’s say Instagram, and take your image saved from Instabooth into there or take your image from your TTV app into Instagram or vice versa. The play can be endless fun and it is so easy that it makes me wonder why I even bother with my analog and D-SLR cameras. (Okay, scratch that statement: we all know the power of real film and multiple lenses so I won’t wax on about that one.) But in the meantime, check out how much fun you can have with these high quality images all from the amazing IPhone and a little playtime in App City.
