Learning How to be Creative
Finding Your Vision
Finding your unique creative vision can sometime be tough, but once you learn how to tape into your creative store-house the ideas flow freely.
I was invited to an exhibit by my five year old step son. I wasn't really interested in seeing the exhibit as it was the annuel bug fair, but it was more fun then working on my taxes. Besides my step-son really wanted to see it and the excitement in his voice made me happy to go. As we entered the exhibit I wondered how long we had to be there. My step-son was in heaven the moment he walked in the door. Five minutes into the exhibit everything changed. We walked into a room filled with more butterflies than I've ever seen in my life and all of the sudden idea's were flowing through my head. Now all of the sudden I was the one being pulled from the room.
The important thing about inspiration is that when it hits you, you must act right away or its gone forever. After we left the exhibit I started thinking about my ideas. The first thing I did was jump on-line and do a bit of research. I would need help and I had to explain my idea in a way where everyone would understand. Visuals always help when explaining your ideas. I knew to bring my vision to life I would need help from my team. T.E.A.M, Together Each Achieve More. I call my makeup artist and hair stylist and then one of my favorite models. I explained my idea and sent images online so they understood my vision. We planned a day and went to work.
My idea was to turn a woman into a butterfly. The vision I had was strong, but once I enlisted the help of my team it became better. We shot all day and came up with several amazing images. Once complete I entered two images into different contests and both were selected. One became the opening image to the exhibit in New York City and opened to door an entirely new audience. The lesson here is to be aware when inspiration hits you and then to act on it right away. You can't go wrong when you follow your heart.
