Love The Light
In photography you have to love the light.
Light is probably your biggest asset in conveying emotion and connectivity with both your subject and your viewer. So it makes sense that you would really need to know how light and shadow play a vital role in how well your photography comes out.
Try this experiment
You don’t need expensive flashes or top notch gear to learn this quick lesson on light. Simply take your subject into the harsh light of high noon and photograph him or her. Then take the same subject in the same background with the same clothing and photograph them an hour before sunset. Compare the two pictures and you’ll see a dramatic difference in mood and emotion.
Experiment more
Using natural light indoors you can create dramatic and awe inspiring photographs with window light and in doorways early or late in the day. This small effort will help you to understand how light plays such a pivotal role in photography.

This is so very true and a very good lesson for anyone. We need to be reminded of this from time to time.
