Making of..... "Portyshoot"

Hi guys,

Today I'd like to show you some behind the scenes stuff from one of my last personal coachings. I like to call the post today "Making of... Portyshoot"!

Why? The reason is that I used a porty for lighting the model.

A porty is a mobile studio light of the German company "Hensel Studiotechnik". I do all my jobs with Hensel and I love it. But today I'm not talking about Hensel; today I will explain to you some steps in lighting and post production.

By the way.... heres a picture of my assistant Gabor

You can see, I am a big big fan of a beauty dish :-)

Before I start lighting the model I take some pictures of the backgorund to get a feeling of my camera settings. For my final image i choosed a f/16, 1/160 second and ISO 160.

I used the available light (sun) and my porty with the beauty dish in front of the model. Heres the raw file:

I like the image but it looks very..... hhmmm.... normal!?
I am a photoshop lover so I thought it could be a nice idea to add a "look" to the picture.

I did some retouching, skin smoothing, transforming and the most important thing: color manipulations and contrast techniques.

Dodging and burning is also very important.

Well, a lot of boring and easy techniques but putting it all together gives me a more interesting picture.

Most of the time I am not a big fan of a cyan color look but for this picture i used a lot of cyan :-)

Take a look and let me know what you think?!

If you have questions or like to know more about a technique what I used, please let me know. I do not have secrets.

Talk to you soon.......

I am very interested about the background, not the model itself :D What techniques did you use on the background to get the look? It looks little painterly/movie/hdr'ish to me. And I like it a lot!

Please give some tips for the workflow to get results like that :)

Here are two other examples from a different photographer/retoucher to get the idea if you didn't understand what I mention:
