Mississippi deputies deleted video footage shot by arrested activists

Three libertarian activists who were jailed yesterday in Mississippi said deputies deleted the video footage they shot seconds before they were arrested.

They also say that deputies searched their motorhome without consent.

One of the activists also said he was pepper sprayed and choked.

The men were charged with varying misdemeanors including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and possession of a beer in a dry county.

They have not responded to my request to interview them, so I’m just going on the information they provided on their website and Twitter account.

I thought you just couldn’t buy alcohol in dry counties. I didn’t realize that mere possession was illegal too.

Hopefully the cops get nailed for deleting the video.

Apparently that law is unique to some Mississippi dry counties. Do they clearly say this on signs when you are entering a dry county, or are travelers expected to read up on all bizarre local laws before driving through?

You know, when they delete the footage it makes you wonder what crimes of theirs they wish to hide. No different than with Nixon’s secretary, it makes you wonder because it is the appearance of having something to hide.

Well there you go. That’s destruction of evidence.

I think I would file a criminal complaint against the deputies.
