Mo. cops raid home, kill dog and harass family for small amount of weed (video)
Police in Missouri raided a family’s home in the middle of the night in February, shooting and killing a dog while traumatizing a 7-year-old child as they ransacked the house searching for “narcotics.”
They found nothing but a marijuana pipe with some resin.
They ended up charging the homeowner with child endangerment.
The Columbia Police Department videotaped the raid, which surprisingly, made its way to the public eye, allowing the world a first-hand view on the War on Drugs.
From what I’ve read, there is no indication that the family was even suspected of selling marijuana. The articles I’ve read say the warrant was only for marijuana, which has been decriminalized in most first-world countries.
The family says the dog, a pit bull, was caged when he was shot. Police say he was “aggressive” and deserved to get shot.
But the video shows that the only aggressiveness that night came from police.
So wouldn’t it have been justifiable to use deadly force against them?
Perhaps, if the Fourth Amendment held any value anymore.
But in an age when police are allowed to raid your home for uploading videos and for blogging about police and for reviewing an iPhone that had already been returned to the company – not to mention a small amount of marijuana for personal use – the Fourth Amendment is not worth the paper it was written on.

Hey C. Rich got THE FBI on the case of THE HIDDEN MUSLIM MESSAGES on GOOGLE MAPS and I see the pictures:
http://americaspeaksink.com/2010/05/hidden-islamic-message-update/
That is sick. Why when a police dog is shot do the police hunt down the “killer,” but when a family dog gets shot by the police nothng happens? Why am I not surprised. Why don’t the morons at PETA get involved in these situations, hypicrites.
Jody´s last blog ..Ad Criticizing Bloomberg for NYC’s Marijuana Arrest Policy Censored
All of the articles I’ve read about this incident never mention the judge’s name who issued the bust down the door warrant. Usually when an incident like this occurs the “judge” hides like a little baby. He probably didn’t read the warrant and he is probably a “cops” warrant judge. The one they go to all the time because the other judges might question their judgment. The people and press involved here need to ask this judge some questions and put his face on the blog.
That video is seriously disturbing.
They found “a marijuana pipe with some resin” then charged “the homeowner with child endangerment.”
Of course, because it is much more dangerous to have some resin than it is to point a loaded rifle at a child.
I don’t know if this is something new, but in my county most, if not all, of the marijuana raids are for grow houses. The enforcers get a warrant, then they wait while observing the home. When someone drives away, they make a traffic stop and arrest and get the keys or garage door opener to the house. They probably question the driver as to occupants, guns, animals, children, etc. and stuff like that. Then they simply go over to the home and open the door without causing damage and conduct their search. Seems smarter to me, maybe the judges are telling them to do it this way rather than the Iraq insurgent method which is incredibly dangerous not only to the occupants (and dogs), but to the MP’s as well.
Police are increasingly operating outside the spirit and letter of the law and the U.S. Constitution, and as such will find themselves – and the apparatus that aids and abets them – increasingly targeted.
Both literally and figuratively.
Porcupine Picayune´s last blog ..We Are All Criminals
They sure let off that first round quick! Notice, they broke through the door at 0:41, and the first shot was fired on the dog BEFORE 0:42. Less than a second before opening fire. These guys literally broke down the front door WITH GUNS BLAZING! At a residence of an innocent citizen/suspect (remember innocent until proven guilty?) with children and non-suspects present, it’s dangerous to be so trigger-happy. These cops act like they were trained to fight armed professional terrorists to do a raid on a recreational marijuana user. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video that made me so afraid to live in America before.
These swat team people are all ex marine, rangers and airborne. They are trained, brainwashed killers, who are always talking in military terms and live outside the normal life of most peace loving Americans. Probably most of them stand in front of mirrors with their guns drawn talking like Travis Bickle. To them, life is kill or be killed, It’s us against them. We have brought the Perpetual War to our neighborhoods.
I guess I’ve grown so weary of these police actions that I sat and cried this morning after viewing what happened to this family. I don’t think I’ve ever been more grateful for the internet and these postings. Please don’t stop exposing this police brutality. It seems to be getting worse, or perhaps, we know more about it. Using cameras makes it that more more real and hitting home. This can happen to any of us.
I was the subject of a DHS investigation because a former supervisor filed false claims against me. This could have been me. That little boy could have been my grandson. I was emotionally molested. They investigated everything about me – my finances, my job, my home, my community. For what? A dip shit supervisor who had to lie to DHS to get them to investigate me.
Please, please don’t stop exposing law enforcement ineptness, brutality, ignorance, and being bullies.
You see folks, these cowardly law enforcement hide behind the so called illegal laws that you and I do not approve of. It is this sort of act that the American People need to step up and fight back meaning, get your guns out blazing and this means the neighborhood needs to rescue others when this happens. The cops would not do this if they saw an army of Americans shooting at them. Also, we need to do a citizens arrest on the Judge. Americans will continue to be not protected by this sort of domestic enemy whom are suppose to obey the law and not the drug laws. When is this going to end?
The first shot was when they shot the family’s corgi. The second set of shots was the pit bull. The corgi survived; the pit bull did not.

“Police are increasingly operating outside the spirit and letter of the law and the U.S. Constitution, and as such will find themselves – and the apparatus that aids and abets them – increasingly targeted.”
exactly. The judges and prosecutors that enable these cops are as bad if not worse than the bad cops who conduct themselves in this fashion.
The Straw Buyer´s last blog ..Detective Jorge Baluja’s perspective on events that we deem important…
As a dog person and someone who grew up with dogs the only thing I can say that these cops would get the same treatment if they had shot any other member of my family.
The “war on drugs” has turned in to a war on Americans. If you hide behind a shield for a living, you automatically become above the law. “Guilty until proven guilty, shoot first and ask questions if anyone survived”, have become the mantra of these uniformed thugs. Need help, too bad the police are busy destroying lives to stop consensual “crimes” to get to your 911 call in a timely manner. Victimless crimes are just that, victimless, until the police get involved. They need to end prohibition, end the nanny state and start letting adults act like adults.
Fuck the police!
This video is disgusting. Carlos, thank you for posting this one. I can’t believe this happened in my country, and I can’t believe all this happened over a pipe with resin.
What the eff is going on with police nowadays? They can videotape themselves shooting a dog in front of it’s family and then kill a second dog after that?!?
If police are allowed to kill aggressive dogs, the what should citizens be allowed to do to police that act like aggressive dogs?

This is a letter I wrote to the mayor of Columbia. Its not much, but if everyone else could write to him then perhaps we could help make a change:
mayor@GoColumbiaMo.com
Mr. Mayor,
I just watched the video of your recent search of Jonathen Whitworth’s home. What is happening in this country is a national disgrace and it appears to have spread to Columbia, Missouri in a very sad way. It appears as if the police have declared war on families, the Constitution and on common sense. There had to be a better way to handle this situation and it happened on your watch. What if your home is next? Do you have children that will be terrorized by police shooting their way into your home? I doubt that the seriousness of this event has even crossed your mind, except when you faced the press. What have you learned by all of this? Have your police forgotten the “protect and serve” obligation they have toward the citizens of your city? The “thug” mentality of the officers who planned and conducted this raid is offensive and is truly a stain on this country.
Sadly,
Tom Jannusch
It is absolutely gut wrenching to watch this video. I’m not a very litigious person. In fact I think most frivilous lawsuits that are filed are deplorable. That being said, I think this poor family should file a major suit against the city of Columbia, MO, in the sum of millions of dollars in damages, distress, mental anguish, and numerous civil rights violations. It would be a well deserved lawsuit, though unfortunately nothing can bring back their beloved furry family member. I will pray for this family.
“I have a right to know your name.” Like fuck you do you goddamn filth, cops are scum. That man should hunt those pricks down, one at a time and shoot their dogs.
“…the Fourth Amendment is not worth the paper it was written on.”
If memory serves me well, wasn’t the fourth amendment written on hemp paper? The messed up irony of it all.
Nope, it was written on parchment paper.

What kind of paper or parchment was the US constitution written on?
Answer
The U.S. Constitution was drafted on hemp paper, and the final draft was written on animal parchment.
The police department is saying that reports that the dog was in a cage are false. They are also saying that they should have executed the search warrant more quickly. They are claiming that the suspect moved all his drugs.
LEGALIZE MARIJUANA YOU FUCKERS. SELL IT AT MOTHER FUCKING 7-11!!! WHO CARES
I cried while I watched the video.
dont cry! hate and fight back!

Like my mom says, if beer is legalized Mary Jane should be too.
Both have the same effects to a persons mind, so how come the one with more deaths to its tally should be legalized wile the other has nill.
If it was legal some poor dudes dog would still be alive.

Seriously, wtf is it? Pick one and go with it.
I sure have to agree with you on this.
I feel the same way, the citizens needs to start fighting back because law enforcement has really gotten out of hand, they have now become nothing short of cold blooded killers now, it seems that the citizens no longer have any protection.
I hear you, i feel the same way, they couldn’t have just gotten away with that scott free, they have to come out in public at some time, go to the grocerie store of something.
Yeah it was real hard to look at and, to tell you the truth i wish i never looked at it, my insides kept telling me not to look at it.
There were no shots fired before 1:03. The noises before that weren’t caused by guns.
“Probably most of them stand in front of mirrors with their guns drawn talking like Travis Bickle.”
Get real. They’re probably just a bunch of maladjusted guys suffering from PTSS!
Those cops should be treated like enemy combatants.

Oh, I know this one. Pick one, indeed.
At an football game I attended at my alma mater a few years ago, the “security” had their wires crossed. One was yelling at us to put all the contents of our pockets – in my case batteries and memory cards – in our hands and walk towards him slowly (they had no metal detectors). At the same time, another started yelling at everybody to stop while the band came through. Guard number two ended up throwing his arm across my body, leaving a small bruise and causing me to drop most of my stuff. I told him I was just foll0wing the instructions of the other guard and he got in my face with “Didn’t you hear what I told you?!” so I asked for his badge number (and got it).
I should have filed charges for assault and written a scathing letter to the alumni association. Instead I just stopped going to the games.
Of course my experience is nothing like what this family went through. Even *if* there was a larger drug violation, they had no right to shoot the dog out of hand. Call animal control if necessary.
you should get real, it’s PTSD…
For you, its going to end with your ass in the slammer if you don’t start being a bit more discrete with what you post online.
I hope everyone of those cops get asshole cancer.
and lives to be 200 years old!
PTSS (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) is also correctly used. Thanks for playing, please come again.
