My Daily Rag: Savasana, Yoga Therapy, Art Therapy & Beyond
Savasana and beyond
Today I led my marathon 4 hour yoga therapy / art therapy venture for women cancer survivors. I used the easy-as-pie techniques that I described to permanently transfer images onto fabric. Transferring images of loved ones, some of whom had succumbed to the same disease that now inhabits these women's bodies caused tears to flow. Yet, they left with permanent images of their loved ones that would sustain them as they walk this arduous path. Their deep love for their family members (and for some their pets) reminded me of how close I am to my own family, particularly my siblings.
To demonstrate, I used an image of my brother and me at my uncle's wedding. I was the flower girl and had been chastised that day for casting flowers onto the aisle. My brother, Len-It ( as I affectionately call him, even though to the world he is Dr. H), had been scolded for throwing the ring bearer's pillow into the air as he walked down the aisle. The two of us were truly pips. We were always getting into mischief yet we supported each other. He called the other day to tell me how touched he was by new book, and clacked on about the photos, many familial ones he had never seen, transformed into new art pieces.
So with that in mind, I used the byproduct of today to make my journal entry. It will be an everlasting reminder of those days gone by, just like the artwork created by my women's group.
This work we do is so important. We are the photo-orators, preserving slices of time that are so precious.
So be well, shoot often and remember to love what you do, prizing the health that you have to create. As always, ever art.
