My Daily Rag: Day 2 of Journaling
So, I was thinking about how long it had been since I did a linoleum cut. So, first I chose a simple image of a bird that I had photographed with my Nikon D-SLR. Next, I took it into Photoshop and using some filters, I turned it into a line drawing, cleaning it up with Live Trace in Illustrator. (Remember your artwork will be in reverse so plan accordingly in Photoshop.) Then I printed it on a laser printer. Next, I turned over the paper and vigorously rubbed the back with a graphite pencil. Then I turned over the paper and re-drew the lines while pressing onto the linoleum block. The result is a clean transfer of the image. Of course, the next step of cutting away all the negative space to reveal the lines took about 2 hours. Finally, I pulled out my Speedball block printing ink and created the print in my journal (my gift from pixiq.com) and then onto cardstock cards, available from Michael's and all art stores. Finally, I adorned the printed cards with decorative paper to make them one-of-a-kind. All this from a simple bird image captured with my Nikon camera and transformed into art. Read more in my new book, Digital Image Transfer: Creating Art With Your Photography.
Oh yes and the journal page reads around the bird, "if only you could sing what is in my heart, then you would know what awakens me to you." I titled it, "Birds of a feather".
(I love this journal from ecosystem- thanks again, Pixiq!!!)
