Naked bike group creates "photography policy" for shooting them in public
So here we have a group of people who not only believe they have the right to ride their bikes in public completely naked, but that they have the right to forbid anyone from photographing it.
Talk about arrogant.
World Naked Bike Ride, an international organization that promotes naked protests against the use of cars, has even gone as far as implementing a “photography policy” as they go around breaking indecent exposure laws.
Below is a sample of their policy when dealing with photographers in public.
- If it makes you uncomfortable, let the photographers know that they don’t have permission to photograph you.
- Some rides might want to consider having a rolling start. Some have said that it’s fun to start off clothed and then, once riders are away from the assembly area and crowds, they can undress. This has been done in Vancouver and Chicago.
- Everybody should take responsibility for making people feel comfortable and informing others (who might be unaware) of the photo/video policy.
- Consider appointing a photography patrol to educate photographers about the policy. Most people will be respectful of policy once they are informed. Always assume good intent unless there is good reason to believe otherwise.
- Consider prohibiting photography/video taking place in designated areas. Eg: in 2005, Seattle photographers and film-makers were prohibited from shooting closer than 15 feet from subjects. The problem is of course, that some have long lenses!
- Tents, domes, shelters and screens: Consider prohibiting photography inside body-painting tent areas without permission from those being painted.
- Consider issuing IDs to photographers and film-makers that you have a good relationship with, and that understand your policy.
- Be prepared to directly confront predatory photographers if they have been warned or are actingly in blatantly disrespectful ways. Turn the tables on problem people by photographing them and posting their image on your website for the public to see. Often this will discourage them from shooting irresponsibly. There are also those who are at the event to use the images for other reasons, and you won’t know without asking. If someone is being aggressive, acting suspiciously, or making you feel uncomfortable, please tell a WNBR team coordinator or someone who can ask them to back off and give people personal space.
I find it pretty laughable as does the San Francisco Citizen; especially the ones where they’re going to get off on telling me I “don’t have permission” to photograph them.
Or the one about the “photography patrol” that would “educate” me about photographing them in public.
Having said all that, I didn’t even bother photographing the naked bike protest that rode through Miami last week.
My experience with these types of protests is that they are filled with scraggly looking white men rather than hot looking women.

i heard sef led the ride…eek
and there was NO nudity…pussies…all talk…typical
“My experience with these types of protests is that they are filled with scraggly looking white men rather than hot looking women.”
That’s exactly the problem.
I don’t think the nudity is for other people, it’s for the riders. My friend organized the one in Los Angeles.
If I’m at the beach in a two piece, I do not want to be photographed…especially since it’s probably just some pervy photo dude.
I admit I am a pervy photo chick (After all, photography is sort of all about voyeurism)…but if I’m going to indulge, I like to do it consensually.
If you want to document the event, that’s one thing, but you just admitted that you’d be going out just for spank bank material. And as a woman, that’s what makes it uncomfortable when men photograph you…naked or not.
Now, now, us dirty old men need love to.
I just don’t think I could take anyone that “directly confront(s) [sic]” me, with their junk hanging out, seriously. I’d probably make them extremely uncomfortable with my deafening, bellowing laughter (and finger pointing). Childish I know, but someone needs to teach them .
I’d say that policy, if somebody tried to enforce it, would get somebody’s naked ass kick in a hurry. Don’t try to tell ME I can’t take your picture when you’re traipsing around buck nekkid in public!! Of course, I’d not want to be shooting pix of some 67 yr. old man. You’d THINK they’d have thecommon decency to show up with a couple of really hot, sexy gals.
so Jim is a funny guy now….
Burger Beast recently posted..You know what’s really good? The Philly Cheeseteak at Andiamo! Miami, Florida
If you’re going to make a spectacle of yourself, expect to be treated like a spectacle. Pity the planned San Diego stop was last week, might’ve been entertaining to go practice my Gilden imitation.
They have a section where they discuss Public Spaces, but there seems to be a cognitive disconnect between how they have rights to ride and do what they want, and other peoples rights to do what they want.
If you are in public, on public property, you can and might get photographed whether you like it or not.
If you don’t want to be photographed, stay on private property.
There policy is unenforceable.
I am not sure which I find funnier, the notion they can object to someone taking pictures and make it stick when they are in public or my desire to find them so I can indeed do what Gramie did to the flasher. Point and laugh is indeed the only response to that.
If I choose to stand in my front yard or ride my bike naked on a public road I would expect someone will take a picture or video of the crazy lady. Not that I will, I was taught not to scare the children and the horses.
So I keep to the inside of my home or on the farm well away from any public egress when I want to be sans clothes. Take my picture then and trespassing charges will be the least of your problems.
So, you chose not to photograph them and…
“My experience with these types of protests is that they are filled with scraggly looking white men rather than hot looking women.”
You did have to add the insult to what you too will become one day soon, if not now, and weren’t able to just let it go? You had to have the last word.
Also, I think for your subjects to also photograph you is quite an eloquent and effective response, a point that you didn’t address yourself to. Fair is fair. Public photography is your right and so too is it theirs. That seems to be a very fine point to promote.
“If you see a photographer taking your picture and you don’t want them to and they insist it’s their Frist Amendment right, then you too have that First Amendment right. If they post it on You Tube so can you. If they talk about you on the internet you too can talk about them.
My! What a wonderful solution!!! Now Carlos, you live in Miami? So all I have to do is look for “police brutality, jaywalkers, and hot women and I’ll find you camera and all? Will all the other photographers in Miami be able to find you there also? Now, talk about becoming popular. You’ll be all over the web and not just on your self controlled little webpage about “Photography Is Not A Crime!”
What a day this is becoming! LOL!
Now mind you, some of the bloggers that see you in images may or may not be accurate with their comments, their attitudes, their perceptions of you, similar to what we find on your website, but, you won’t be upset or offended will you? I mean, it’s all about the First Amendment right?
(Why didn’t I think of this before? LOL!) Maybe some of your commenting bottom feeders might wish to post their locations so they can be legally photographed also?
Joe,
How was it an insult? It’s just my preference. I prefer to see a hot naked woman than a scraggly old dude.
And I’m not one to parade my naked body in public, so it doesn’t make a difference if I will become like that one day.
And the reason I didn’t address the part where they respond by photographing the photographer is because I have no problem with that. That’s their right.
And they can post my photo where ever they want.
You see, I’m not the one who is naked, so I really don’t care.
And as for the rest of what you’re saying, I guess somebody would really have to be obsessed with me to want to follow me around and photograph me.
I actually do have a few obsessive psychos who would do anything to tear me down.
But I would imagine they would have to photograph me doing something embarrassing in order for the photo to garner any interest.
Hey Joe my town could use a bump in tourism dollars so feel free to visit Lake Havasu City Az. I am here year round but I am out with my camera most often in the summer. Those California hard bodies you know, where as in the winter it is mostly snowbirds and who wants a picture of them. I promise not to object if you take my picture where I have no expectation of privacy. Whether you make a point of making sure I know you have or not.
Yeah, right! Oh Carlos, how I would love to do a docu-video of you as the champion for the First Amendment and post it online. HEAR YE! HEAR YE! The Champion for the People! Carlos Miller! The man-individual-person-photographer, and with groupies in tow, that is going to save us all from First Amendment abuses and set us free!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
When ever will that axe of yours be properly ground Carlos? If anyone is obsessed it is you with false notions that your rights have been violated. Typical! (OH! Poor Little ME!)
(There is no evidence that you are silenced in your First Amendment right of free expression at all Carlos, not one bit.)
Whatever, dude.
Carlos, he’s a troll; probably a 14 year old kid who just wants to rattle somebody’s cage.
In addition, we see from the quote I posted earlier, that the cop approached a man for jaywalking and then the two females intevened. They injected themselves into the policeman’s process, and then got physical. Why isn’t anyone on your board admittng their emotional comments are wrong, hasty, and we remember that haste makes waste, right, and an eyewitness reports it differently? It’s pure arrogance, ignorance, and misplaced and misdirected anger.
Whateva dude. (I just got your face on film! LOL)
It would be so nice if we all commented and responded in a video and then posted that up here for all to see, in all fairness, and in keeping with the noble doctrine of the First Amendment and our individual rights to be photographed, videotaped, and exhibited in public. I’d love to see and hear how many of you look and speak. Now wow, that would be a treat! As webpage owner Carlos you should have been doing that anyway, just like you enjoyed speaking on that Russian TV Show. What a bunch of feathers that would pace in your cap. I’m down, wanna?
Rusty?
You haven’t taken my cease and desist letter seriously have you?
Carlos,
Now what’s right is right. Are you going to permit that language on your comment board?
joe i realy hate to say this to you but it is a PUBLIC forum as stated by carlos many times in the past……. So as per the first amendment he has a right to VOICE an opinion and it seems his opinion of you is that your a troll
Let it slide off your back and leave it be
sorry if this confuses you but ummm your letter is BULL SHIT
OK, you start with the video. Or let me start it for you.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Joe Piervincenti.

No respect for anyone out here with a difference of opinion or for one that asks for mutual respect. You should be ashamed to be hosting such rubbish Carlos. Your worthy ambitions are tarnished by the nature of your other guests. That such crap should be intersperced with the defence of an important constitutional amendment betrays you. This too should be broadcast on the Russian TV Show. Perhaps they need a letter to be written to them? To see the freedom of speech you permit on your webpage?
Ok, Rusty, you’re scum, pure and simple and All Be Dammed, behind your cloak of anonymity, you’re feces.
There! As long as it’s mutual and in the open and spoken, its free speech and protected by the first amendment.
You are all latex, cylindrical receptacles predominantly used for male reproductive emissions.
Thanks for the free publicity Carlos, all free too. Now it’s your turn and in the cause for equality, 10 minutes for you too.
I was being respectful to you Joe but if you chose to be an ass its your right i was voicing my opinion in a way i thought apropriate
my other opinion is that if you cant handle it like every one else here thats your problem….
Carlos has been kind enough to be very open and blantent about his opinions as has rusty and every one else here sorry you cant take the heat i do enjoy reading your comments posted here
To bad you have to resort to name calling as of witch i have not called you any names in any of my posts exsept by the one you give
Lol, you asshole, Do you think that if that were going to embarrass or injure me that I would have recorded it or posted it to Vimeo. See, your small mindedness and hurtful manner exposes you for who and what you are, vermin, a bottom feeder, and ignorant. Rather then reply to me intelligently, you’re surfing the web looking for ways to denigrate and embarrass me so I’ll stop opposing your crap speeches.
I thought better of you when you championed the constitution but you’re no better than any of them, you’re a sack of shit, pure and simple. I daresay that with your attitude and methods that you’re going to be getting arrested alot more for your actions. Remember what I told you about the Patriot Act, they don’t have to tell you anymore why they’re arresting you, not arraign you, ar grant you bail. Call up your ACLU buddies to illuminate that for you.
You’re a dissident Carlos. Read about dissidence.
A voice of reason.
Joe,
If I really wanted to shut you up, all I would do is delete your posts and block you from ever commenting here again.
I just find it funny how you come across as such a free-spirited, peace-loving man in your video when you come across as such a wanker here.
And in the spirit of fairness, full disclosure, free speech, the first amendment, and all that crap why not also include:

Too bad that you’re not man enough to do the same Carlos, same for your groupies.
Man enough to do what? Post my Myspace page?
I don’t have one.
Hey everybody, STOP FEEDING THE TROLL!!
Yes, perhaps a wanker I am here. Ever consider that it was all fine until your participants began their trolling? They’re the same people on Yahoo news comment boards, slamming mud and sticking knives in peoples backs on other message boards, and anywhere else where somewhat anonymous postings are permitted. They antagonize thread subject matter, they lure and bait people by throwing mud at them, and they inflame issues. The same old bottom feeders everywhere you can post a message anonymously. They never show themselves or their identities because they cannot bear the light of day to shine on them. Why, even one of your female posters said that it’s usually dirty old men with sexual urges, impotent old men with cameras, I add, that seek to photograph anything that can be twisted into something lurid and dirty, all for the satisfaction of their wrinkled and shrunken peckers.
You see Carlos, that is what many of you photographers are, voyeuristic, obscene, lurid, impotent old men, in your psyches, that seek free thrills at the expense of others. It’s been done to models, politicians. celebrities, and so forth. Come to photograph me, let’s see where it goes. I will respect your First Amendment rights to the fullest extent of the law.
They’re not smart enough for that Rusty.
And you don’t have that sterling and very admirable quality of an upright man in society, which they call… character.
If they don’t want to be photographed or gawked at then they should keep their clothes on. INDECENT EXPOSURE IS ILLEGAL – Photography is NOT!
So then Mr. Jim P.
Let’s say that you’re out for a day of photography and you come upon a nude beach in the middle of no where. A number of singles and couples abound frolicking gaily on the white sun bleached sands perhaps tossing a volley ball around. Your eyes squint at the sight of it all and you pull the cap off your lens, point, focus, and….
Alas! Someone hollers out “Please do not photograph me! It’s a rather nubile young maiden, of age we’ll assume, but adamant about her desire not to be photographed by you.
Your next move would be what Sir?
Now do you see what an arrogant photographers position and attitude can do to peace loving docile folk like me?
Come to think of it, neither are you. If you recall it was you quite frankly that got this steamroller moving on the board.
It all depends on if the beach is private or public property, what the applicable state law is, and whose property I was standing on. However, we are not talking about a nude beach or any other beach. We are talking about a newsworthy event taking place in the middle of a PUBLIC STREET. Big difference.
Bottom line is my purpose in taking the picture would be to sell it to the highest bidder as an editorial use stock photo which does not require a model release or permission of any kind. People can ask not to be photographed but the law gives me every right to take that picture and THAT is all that matters.
Joe, do you get paid by the models you shoot, or are you the one paying them (I suspect)?
Buy a light meter, learn how to use it, and take a few classes on composition. I’m not trying to be mean, but from the looks of your photobucket, you could use some serious help in those departments.
Oh, anger managemet classes? Did you attend those or were they thrown out also?
Would that violate your rights of privacy if I asked that and is that ok under my First Amendment rights to ask that?
This is what I mean when I call you guys bottom feeders. You presume something and then use that false assumption to make insulting comments.
The photobucket images consist almost totally of shots that were shot by “photographers” and where the photographer and the model or both submitted them to a retouch forum on a modeling webpage for a challenge and for “free retouching” actually in my opinion. The images to which you refer were the amateurish and unprofessional attempts of those who try to represent themselves as photography professionals but who are the individuals that really need the help you so wrongfully attribute for me to consider.
Ok asshole, wanna shoot some more blanks at me?
And also, your case as reported in the Society of Journalists article in the sidebar goes back to 2007-8? This is the second half of 2010 and you’re still whining about that? Do you have some neurotic need to suffer or something or are you still trying to get people to donate five dollar bills to help you pay your rent? Is it possible that you have some more charges since then?
You’re actually the first photographer I have ever come across that bemoans First Amendment rights violations and has been arrested as well. With all of the arrogant photographers out there with all of their abrasive and abusive attitudes and mannerisms, why am I only finding you as one that’s been arrested before? Why haven’t I heard of others being arrested and with cries for support with their own webpages like you, not to mention, asking for money as well?
GEE!
WHOOPS! LOL! WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY WAS:
GEE!!!
I LOVE THE FIRST AMENDMENT!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Gosh, if this keeps up it’s going to be my webpage and not yours, come on dude, post something, lol
Feed the Troll! He’s hungry, lol.
(I so #$%&*&% love this! LOL!)
WOW!! hey listen people your wasting a whole lot of time hating people who really have no impact on your actual life. ITS JUST A COMPUTER. Carlos I hope you don’t bury any Ax that doesn’t hurt you spiritually or physically. If your fighting for a cause that is bigger then you keep chopping. If someone calls me a SOB> well I have to ask is it true? well if it is then there is no sense wasting time fighting about it. If its not WHY should I become a SOB trying to prove him wrong.
EARTH is the Universes mental institution. When your in the nuthouse its good practice to Humor Napoleon Bonaparte. When you stand there and argue it makes all the other inmates nervous. The ones who think there perfect enough to judge others are the really dangerous ones. Normal people scare me.
But I was talking about the nude beach and asked because I wanted to see your reply. I posed the question the way I do to see where your thinking would go without being told the details that you brought out, in other words, to measure your attitude in that scenario, but you dodged the question.
And as you say “THAT is all that matters” tells me your attitude anyway. That is what makes me combative toward photographers, that dammed arrogance that it’s your way all the time. Even though I’m a proponent for individual rights I just hate this arrogance that you people display and that is why so much of the authorities hate you guys as well. You are all just so dammed arrogant!
The way that you treat models and clients and all that. Who do you guys think that you are? The icons of photography in history that could command like that didn’t but you neophtyes have inflated views of yourselves.
I have coined a description of what a photographer is:
A person that takes a box, whether mechanical or electronic, points it at someone or something, presses a button that makes a click, looks at it in the viewfinder, and then calls it art and expects for the world to fall at their feet.
So many people have been cheated and lied to by a photographer, ripped off for their baby pictures, the proofs for their wedding, models have been misled, hit on sexually, and so on. If it weren’t for a camera and a studio I’d say the majority of you guys would never even be able to walk on the same street with a beautiful woman.
I would never, ever want to be called or thought of as a photographer.
Bottom feeders I still say.
For whatever reason there is no “reply” button underneath your “response” to me so I will respond here. What I am fed up with is “authorities” and individuals like yourself who want to create law that does not exist. Police should only enforce law as written. We elect legislators to write laws – we do not live in a POLICE STATE where cops can determine what is or is not legal based upon their personal whims which is what you seem to advocate.
It is not arrogance to expect that everyone follows the LAW as written. What is arrogance is that some people think that they are superior to the law and can make and enforce their own rules.
You talk about photographers who cheat people, hit on models, etc… Now we are getting at your real agenda and your hatred of photographers and photography… Well those that are doing these things are either breaking consumer protection laws or any number of civil statutes. They can and should be sued, fined, or even imprisoned. But those of us who follow the letter of the law should NOT BE HARASSED.
“If you’re going to San Francisco
You’re gonna meet some gentle people there”
