Nikon D800 to be released soon?

I've been waiting patiently for months and months for the D700 replacement so I can finally upgrade, but every time I hear a rumor about the new D800 or D700x or whatever it may be called, they turn out to be just that, a rumor.

Last week, however, I was in a camera store here in New York and asked about the D700, and they told me they were all out, and wouldn't be receiving any more shipments, as the new D800 was going to be coming in sometime next month.

Of course this is still just speculative, but still might prove to be true. As reported over at Nikon Rumors, Canada is out of the D700, and Nikon has planned a press conference for Feb 9th, so let's all cross our fingers and hope that this long overdue replacement finally comes to fruition.

Also, if you're a Nikon user and you don't already check Nikon Rumors, it's the most concrete source for news and new announcements about future Nikon gear.

PS. The photo above is most surely a fake.

I sure hope not.. I just bought a D700 on saturday :/

I DO hope so. My D700 is getting old and I would appreciate higher resolution (megapixels).

But yeah, Blaze, I know what you mean.

HOWEVER.... the major Canadian retailer, henrys.com shows the D700 as IN STOCK. So does vistek.ca

Granted some smaller retailers in Canada show it as not in stock or back ordered.

January 30, 2011 .....Another report from a store in Belgium (email sent to customers) that the Nikon D700 is discontinued. I received similar report from a major US retail chain that is currently out of stock and have no future plans on ordering new D700 units.....

No way, the D800! Nikon, if you're reading this please pay attention to what I write...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make the viewfinder 100%! My only major gripe about the D700 is the viewfinder. However, some more pixels would be nice. And while your at it, increase the ISO performance. At ISO 800 I see awful noise.

It takes years to design and prepare a camera for manufacture, and you think a large Japanese corporation is going to stop production of a new camera because of a single comment, in English, on one American website literally days before introduction?

You must think you have tremendous powers of persuasion! ;)

Obviously Nikon is not reading these posts, duh...this is a forum and last time I checked forums are designed for open discussion. Why so serious? (say that with 'The Joker' intonation)

Forums are indeed designed for open discussion, not for ineffectually addressing people who aren't going to hear them. If you had a comment, addressing a demand to Nikon might not have been the best way to make it. :)

again you've missed the point Sanjay...but that's ok, please keep spouting gibberish, it's amusing : )

If you're going to participate in a private forum you need to understand how to post, and how not to provoke people with personal attacks. Keep up childish and churlish posts like the last post and Pixiq will probably not tolerate it for long. Cheers.

1) thanks for delineating how to post on forums
2) thanks for lessons in forum etiquette
3) who provoked who?
4) thanks for threatening me
5) finally, have a wonderful day

As per my original post, NIKON, if you're reading this please change the viewfinder to 100%!!! Ahhh, the joy of figure of speech.

The Nikon D700 will stay in production till June 30 2011. The release date for the revolutionary Nikon D800 is second week in August 2011.

mate please state your sources. I also found D700 had a big price drop in Sydney and the sales told me there will be a new one soon and they are getting rid of the old d700

Awesome! Thanks for the update...finding all sorts of information online now : ) Cheers

But the big issue, Guys, is about about the stock levels and reliability that will be available at the start! Will we have to wait for months to get hold of one of these, or risk being early adopters who get a less than perfect model, or will Nikon have sufficient stocks and the issues ironed out so those of us who are fully committed to the Nikon FX format can actually get a good'un straight off when they launch?

PS - as a teacher - any chance of an earlier release so I can it before I go on holiday?
