Nikon (Thailand): The Recovery Continues
The Nikon Corporation has issued its fifth statement in respect of its flood damaged factory in Thailand
The Nikon Corporation has issued its fifth advisory notice in respect of its flood damaged factory in Thailand. The news sounds positive, with partial operations, including the production of D-SLR cameras and interchangeable lenses, commencing from 3rd January 2012, which is earlier than had been expected.
Meanwhile the manufacture of production machinery to replace that destroyed, or damaged as a result of the floods in Thailand continues in Japan, along with some camera/lens parts production to supplement the restored operation at the Thai factory. Camera/lens parts have also been in production since the end of November 2011 at other locations within Thailand.
In line with previous updates on the situation the notice mentions that full production at the Nikon (Thailand) plant is expected to resume from the end of March 2012.

Let's hope that 2012 proves to be an eventful year for Nikon for all the right reasons, it has certainly begun with a flying start following the announcement of the D4 D-SLR, and that the company makes a full recovery from the effects of the natural disasters it endured during 2011.
