Nikon's new 50mm prime
Behold! Nikon has just announced a new 50mm f1.8 prime lens: the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G. At £199.99 (or €232.00) it won’t be breaking the bank, and weighing 185g, it won’t break your back, either.
It’s got a dedicated Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which makes for quiet but accurate autofocus. It’s compatible with Nikon FX-format dSLRs, but if you want to use it with DX-format dSLRs, it’s a 75mm (equivalent) focal length.
Nikon tells us: ‘The new 50mm is an ideal second lens for curious dSLR enthusiasts wanting to venture beyond the kit lens and explore the creative possibilities that a fast aperture can offer, including effects such as blurred backgrounds in portraiture and low-light shooting.’ But those of us who’ve already subscribed to the Church of 50mm Prime Adoration knew that, anyway.
So, this baby’s available 2 June 2011. Who’s queuing?
