Occupy Calgary Activist Threatens To Sue Videographer For Recording Him
One thing about the Occupy movement is that it doesn't take much to separate the idiots from the rest of the pack.
All you have to do is point a camera in their direction to see who comes forward with threats of legal repurcussions or actual physical assaults.
The latest incident took place at an Occupy Calgary with an activist named James Bullock and a videographer named Cory Morgan.
"If you ever publish this, have a fun time listening to my lawyers," Bullock tells Morgan.
"It will be online this afternoon," Morgan responds calmly.
"If I find out it is online this afternoon ..........," Bullock continues, unable to find the words to complete his threat.
It's easy to get pissed off at Bullock, especially considering how many videos we've seen of activists confronting videographers.
But Bullock apparently has some personal issues as he ackowledges in this article.
So maybe we shouldn't be so hard on him.

Ummm, why should we feel sorry for him?
He gets close to $1,200 per month, free, to use as he pleases.
Many disabled people hold jobs. I'm one of them. I'm legally handicapped yet still work 300+ days per year, most day being 12-15 hours, at 50+ sports venues around the world annually.
I can't say and it's not our business exactly what his disability is, but how do his disadvantages and problems become the financial responsibility of another? Of society?
If he's mentally slow, he can certainly do manual work. If he's physically challenged, he can answer phones (likely). But it's likely easier just to collect $1,200 per month, buy his cigs and live on the streets, using the $1,200 ($40 per day) on everything but housing, bills, etc.
I don't feel sorry for him at all, especially for his littering ticket.
Your broadly sweeping comments about the disabled and their ability to work shows your lack of understanding about what many of the disabled actually face on a daily basis. You must be very lucky to not have a disabling handicap. His disability, and your view of it, is not the focus of the story or of the general nature of this web site. Think photography...
I guess it would take a little compassion and understanding to feel sorry for him.
I was just thinking that perhaps he wasn't in the best frame of mind when he threatened to sue the videographer.
I give him a little more leeway than I would a cop who gets paid good money to hopefully remain mentally stable when confronted with a camera.
Also, all he did was threaten the guy with a lawyer, which is not nearly as bad as getting physically confrontational as we've seen some of the other activists do.
It would be nice if other, less clueless demonstrators would take a more active role in stating that they don't agree with threats and will stand by the videographer (a word which pixiq's spell-checker still claims is not a word). They're not legally, nor strictly morally, responsible to intercede, but surely they must realize how much bad publicity the movement gets when idiots like this carry on without challenge.
From Cory Morgan's blog
"What we see here is a pattern of ad hominem attacks against people who report on Occupy Calgary with no substance and that are easily disproved. Can these people and their unfounded and libelous accusations about me be taken seriously this time? Absolutely not."
"I do look forward to seeing them dragged from their tents kicking and screaming so that their “movement” can end in as infantile a manner as it began."
Some of these occupy movements could write a book on how to lose friends and NOT influence people (or worse, influence people AGAINST them).
I like how Cory Morgan complains about "ad hominem" attacks against reporters in his blog full of ad hominem attacks on protesters. :D
Carlos has documented PLENTY of hostile acts towards reporters, both independent and mainstream media, which IMHO are even WORSE than verbally attacking someone in an article. Christ I have my own blog article about the assholes in the Occupy movement and I have to keep updating it as it seems like there are more incidents between the jerks in the movement and media people every day.
I have a hard time getting worked up about it. There have been people like that at every protest ever, and probably always will be. It's not like there's a higher incidence at Occupy, it's just that Occupy has lasted so much longer. Over the course of two MONTHS you're going to have quite a number of assholes.
What does "Christ" have to do with this?
