Ohio Dems Order GOP Blogger To Stop Video Recording Town Hall Meeting

You would think that Ohio democrats would have learned a valuable lesson from Ohio republican Steve Chabot after he had police confiscate cameras from citizens recording a town hall meeting last month.

But that would be asking too much from our elected officials.

Maggi Cook, a republican blogger from Ohio was video recording a woman who appears to be Alicia Reece, a democratic state representative.

I say appears because Cook didn’t bother identifying the woman at the podium in her Youtube description.

However, the woman who confronted her, ordering her to stop recording identified herself as Bernadette Watson, a former Cincinnati councilwoman who became Reece’s campaign manager last year.

Judging by Reece’s pictures found on Google, it appears to be the same woman at the podium. Also, Reece was scheduled to host a town hall meeting Thursday to discuss issues pertaining to black constituents.

Cook is white. Watson and Reece are black. So naturally, Cook’s supporters are crying racism. Or reverse racism.

I’m just going to call it ignorance.

Was this private property in a privetly rented social hall ? The other guy was in a public building. If she was on private property then it makes a very big differance

I don't really care if it was private or public. When you have a town hall meeting that is open to the public, it is stupid to prevent citizens from recording the meeting.

When American Citizens have private parties on private property they are allowed to make silly rules. The public who are free to come or free to leave can make up there own minds if those rules are stupid enough to continue to associate themselves with those people.
I agree it was stupid for a politician, if she did it on private property or public property makes the difference, I believe between illegal and legal. IT says a great deal about the level of respect they have for the public.

Would you Edit a tape Carlos? I do not think you would, edit a tape to show other then the truth of what happened. Remember the women who was forced to resign, from a tape edited out of context to make her appear to be a racist. It happened a year or two ago. I realize that the first amendment applies to everyone with a camera. I realize that people who have a large voice with no ethical standards can do a great deal of harm to the American process.

If it's a private party, don't call it a "Town Hall" and don't invite the general public.

And even if this turns out to be technically legal, it's monumentally stupid. And for God's sake if you're going to be so stupid as to toss someone for videotaping, do it to everyone not just the (white) conservative blogger.

It's important to distinguish if this was a public or private facility and event.

If it was a private function, the property owners were using their authority to remove particular individuals they don't want there. That in itself isn't illegal, nor should it be. However, that isn't to say they shouldn't be heavily ridiculed on blogs and other media outlets like this one.

If it was a public event supported with public funds or equipment, then there would be a legal problem in addition it being an incredibly childish move by this Ohio political group.

I'm also confused as to how racial progress is being made by having a group whose sole purpose is the advancement of black causes. We don't reach equality through over compensation. We build equality through the idea that people are reaching for _equal_ goals, color be damned.

To each his own in a free country, My personal opinion is that anyone who thinks of themselves as Black, or White or Hispanic, or Klingon is a racist, the only exceptable answer to the question of race is Human.

Not that wearing a kilt and eating sheep stomach with ones friends is wrong either. To be honest I wouldnt buy collard Greens and black eyed peas in Minnesota.OR Luta Fisk from the Bronx. Or Blood worms on Vulcan.

Not that people have ill intent when they label themselves. It does says a great deal about how they think.

"We build equality through the idea that people are reaching for _equal_ goals, color be damned."

Right on Brother, Human POWER!!!!

Speciesist!

I don't understand this whole "black caucus" concept. If you substituted the word "white" for every reference in this clip to "black," "African-American," etcetera, you would be accused of naked, flat-out racism.

If you don't understand it, do some research on it. Why do you think certain things like the NAACP and the CBC have been created in the first place?

While racism will always exist it is beneficial to society to try and minimize it.

The problem comes when people wish to make an issue "racial" simply because of differing races of the participants. If either of you has a history of making racially motivated statements its a whole lot easier to make that case.

With all that said both the NAACP and the CBC are hypocritical in that they advocate for their race but if someone came up with NAAWP or CWC they would be racists. That is hypocrisy on its face.

Yes, racism exists, but I am unwilling to write laws that grant beneficial treatment to ANY race. You know the old "content of his character not the color of his skin". Most all of the white people I know believe in that and many of them are even further to the right than I am..

Speaking of History...

The NAACP and the ADL were started by an agent of the Rothschilds, Jacob Schiff.

1909: Jacob Schiff founds the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). This was done to incite black people into rioting, looting and other forms of disorder, in order to cause a rift between the black and white communities.

It was not until 1920 that the NAACP appointed its first black president, James Weldon Johnson.

1913: Jacob Schiff sets up the Anti Defamation League (ADL) in the United States. This organization is formed to slander anyone who questions or challenges the Rothschild global conspiracy as "anti-Semitic".

Mr Schiff is head of the great private banking house of Kuhn, Loeb, and Co, which represents the Rothschilds interests on this side of the Atlantic: He has been described as financial strategist and has been for years the financial minister of the great impersonal power known as Standard Oil.

Strangely enough, the same year that they do this, they also set up their last and current central bank in America, the Federal Reserve. (A Private Corporation)

For me, it doesn't matter if there is a D or an R with the name. A public official should be open to the public!

And a perfect example of my point about being plenty of stupidity from both parties..

I know Alicia, attended school with her. That wasn't her speaking, I believe she was sitting on the left of the speaker. Even so, I'm sending her a note and a copy of this video so she can clean house. You can't talk about transparency, if you're not transparent yourself.

Sure you can. Obama does it all the time.

I didn't go to school with Obama.

I was the one thrown out of the public townhall, and I apologize for not clearly identifying the woman speaking at the beginning of the tape. It is State Senator Williams [D, District 11]. As is clear from the tape, this medium is new for me and I need to do a better job.

The townhall was a public event, advertised in both Cincinnati Herald and Cincinnati Enquirer, and positioned as "community outreach". There were others in the audience with still and video cameras [one man can be seen at the beginning of the tape] - at the very end I tried to pan the room to show others that were still taping.

I have emailed Rep. Reese, Sen. Kearney, the OLBC and ProgressOhio and have not yet heard back from any of them.

Thank you for your notes, and I will do better next time.

Thanks for the reply. I think you should have held your ground, wrong is wrong.

Wow! Look! It happens on both sides of the political aisle, as I noted last week.
