News in brief: Olympus is sticking with dSLRs, then?

For quite some time there have been rumours flying around that Olympus was ready to ditch dSLR production and throw in its lot with the mirror-less camera movement. When the E-5 was released last year, it really did seem that way. Now, however, I’m wondering if either our journalistic speculation was off the mark, or if Olympus has re-thought its strategy.

When ePHOTOzine asked Mark Thackara of Olympus UK what the deal was with dSLR production he responded that: ‘E-X and E-XX dSLRs will continue as long as mirror-less systems can’t fulfil SLR users’ demand. We don’t know when we will have technologies that will be able to substitute this camera class.’ If consumers still want dSLRs, it would appear that Olympus is happy to provide them.

So maybe there’ll be Olympus dSLRs for a little while yet, then.
