Oregon man impersonates cop as he assaults news videographer

A man who believes he is some type of cop was arrested for assaulting a news videographer in Oregon Wednesday.

Peter Fournier can be seen approaching KATU news videographer Bob Bullock as he was filming footage for a weather report.

Fournier is covering his face as he approaches, then pushes his back against Bullock’s camera. He then calls Bullock a “loser reporter.”

And at one point, he pulls out a badge and acts as if he is a cop.

He later said that he was upset that Bullock was filming children as they were getting dropped off at school – which is not illegal and actually quite common for a news report.

He was arrested for assault, malicious mischief and impersonating an officer. Earlier this year, he was arrested for using a stun gun on a 16-year-old boy as he was dressed in a security guard uniform. Yes, he is one of those.

Bullock ended up with thousands of dollars in camera damage as well as bruised ribs and a cut hand.

If someone were to assault me like that, would that be legal justification for me to give him a swift kick to the nads?

I wear steel-toed boots, for the sake of clarity.

Sounds more like a regular cop to me.

I saw a talk with Bruce Davidson. He was talking about the civil rights marches. He saw another photographer with a movie camera and Davidson commented on it. The guy said yeah it’s really good for hitting people…

Hello
I think there should be some rules and regulations for every videographer so this will work and nobody gets a problem.Thank you very much for sharing this information with us.

What I find telling is that this photographer (presumably he has /some/ experience with the police professionally) didn’t question or challenge the jerk’s assertion that he was a cop. Not once that I heard, anyway.

One would think that a well-run, professional PD would /want/ asshattery of this sort to /immediately/ mark jerks like this as fake.

Nemo: i’m not sure where you’re coming from with your comment… but i assure you, the second we start “assuming that cops aren’t cops” is the second we all start getting beat up BEFORE we get arrested.

Gene:

I’m saying that one should /know/ that an asshat like that isn’t a cop, because “everyone knows” that cops don’t act like that. Contrariwise, the fact that it /wasn’t/ obvious that said asshole wasn’t a cop, goes to impugn the cops on the face of it, i.e. the cameraman in question /believed/ that cops occasionally acted like that; ergo, the asshole could have been a cop, as he claimed to be (but wasn’t).

Sida: Yeah there are very clear rules and laws in place. The problem is that some people like this idiot in the video don’t know them.

Reading this post, I expected the offender to be some creepy cop wannabe living in his mom’s basement. But no, he lives in a damn mansion! I hope the photographer sues him for every damn penny the bastard has.
