Outraged Community Further Embarrasses Itself on Video

Gerristen Beach residents continue to threaten local blogger

Gerritsen Beach, a Brooklyn community that is used to sweeping its problems under the carpet, is now grappling with the fact that the world knows it is raising derelict kids.

And rather than dealing with the kids, it is blaming the blogger responsible for informing the rest of us that a horde of a teens wreaked havoc on Halloween by pelting people and cars with eggs, potatoes and rocks.

Perhaps these are simple teen shenanigans they will eventually grow out of, but is that any reason to accuse the blogger of pedophilia?

Of course not, but parents of the kids not only do that, they also threaten Daniel Cavanagh with arrest if he continues to photograph their kids in public as they did in a community meeting earlier this week.

One mother said she even spoke to “a lawyer and cyber police” – whoever the hell they are – and learned that Cavanagh broke the law by reposting screenshots of the teens’ Facebook pages where they admitted to destroying public property.

The three above videos are entertaining and shed light on a community that has yet to accept the impact of social media in the modern world.

Be sure to check out the third video when residents discover there is an actual reporter in the room videotaping the meeting. Then five minutes into that clip, one of the residents storms out while accusing one of the community leaders of setting this all up, meaning inviting the media to record the meeting.

The videos were recorded by Sheepshead Bites, a blog that normally covers a neighboring Brooklyn community.

Ha! Joke of the week. I can now go about the rest of my Friday having had a good laugh. Makes my day!!

What a bunch jerk wagons. Why don't they move over to namby pamby land and have a good cry about it.

Roger, the annoying.

So clueless. Joe DiSimone Sr. is straight out of central casting: "I might have been born today, but not yesterday, ya know what I mean?"

He really has no concept of how ignorant he really is, does he?

I'm confused, why wasn't Snooki in this episode

The sad thing is that it is very easy to imagine that if the perpetrators had been strangers to everyone, they would be praising the blogger for gathering evidence that could be used to find & prosecute the hooligans, and thanking him for helping keep their community safe.

Low class yokels. Instead of disciplining their children, they are getting angry at the one person who decided to try to stop the vandalism. Projection anyone?

If it was my kid that was exposed on this web site you can bet he would not sit down for a week. These parents can't take responsibility for their shitty parenting skills so they have to blame someone else.

It is absolutely amazing how cool, calm, and collected Cavanagh is amongst this onslaught of savage medieval ignorance and slander! Good for you Danny!

The breadth of their ignorance was astounding. Looking at the parents, it's clear the apple didn't fall far from the tree. "Uhh, yea, we usta throw eggs and it was MUCH worse!"(Oh so THAT'S where the little bastards picked that up from!) "They wuz only throwin' eggs" (I guess they missed the potatoes, shaving cream cans, and rocks comment on the blog.)
The parents can piss and moan about the still shots all they want. Even if they successfully sued Cavanagh (unlikely), almost everyone carries around a cell phone, most of which have cameras. So chances are very good either the next Halloween or the one after the little pricks won't just be in pictures, but will have their 15 minutes of fame on video.

...hopefully while in handcuffs.

So, who thinks that those involved either in the original incident or in these videos will be making another appearance here?

Yes, because "teh cyber police" bust people all the time for screencapping stupidity from Facebook.

Idiocracy in action.

I loved how none of the parents had anything to say when one (ONE!!!) person finally brought up the idea that they should maybe talk about what to do about disciplining the criminal children rather than going after the photographer.

Then there is the comment "look what he has done to these kids"

What has he done? Expose your shitty parenting skills and their thuggish anti-social criminal behaviour?

Now your ignorant stupidity has brought your idiotic backwater redneck part of the country to the attention of the entire world.

*waves from Australia*

Who knew there were rednecks in New York City.

"NEW YORK CITY???!!!"

"Get a rope."

Those that yell louder get to speak more. Interesting.

First, if the photos were taken on public property, then the parents have no standing in stopping the photographer. Photographers can take pictures of anyone in a public space and are not required to get any permission from anyone. The photographer would need permission if he was going to use the photos for commercial gain. And even in that case, there is an exemption on that rule for news.

Second, why does everyone worry about what a photographer "does" with the photos? Are they serious? What does that even mean? A photo is a photo.

"The photographer would need permission if he was going to use the photos for commercial gain. And even in that case, there is an exemption on that rule for news."

I'd say a bunch of underage punks rioting in the streets with cops refusing to show up after being called multiple times counts as news.

"Second, why does everyone worry about what a photographer "does" with the photos? Are they serious? What does that even mean? A photo is a photo."

By calling him a pedo the parents seem to be accusing him of having a Robert Mapplethorpe moment. However there is a huge difference between posing kids naked and taking pictures of them rioting in the streets. I don't think NAMBLA will have much interest in Cavanagh's photos but the cops should.

You are suppose to be 13 years or older to have an account on any website. These parents are out of control. Daniel did a great job by staying quite and letting these people prove his point for them.

Calling somebody a pedophile is a serious accusation that could give Cavanagh a strong defamation case. It might be smarter for these parents to focus their energy reigning in their little monsters rather than exposing themselves to liability for slander.

The stupidity of the general public never ceases to amaze me. Those kids should be held accountable, but the parents continue to defend their behavior.

I can only imagine what the outrage would have been had they stolen hundreds of recipes. After all, everything on the internet is in the "public domain", at least according to one editor of a magazine.

Carlos,

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40036152

A Southern California judge handed down the minimum sentence possible for former BART officer Johannes Mehserle in the shooting death of Oscar Grant. Mehserle was told in court he will serve two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. Before the sentencing hearing began, Mehserle was facing up to 14 years in prison.

I grew up in this community. These people are exactly as they are as captured on this video. They are narrow-minded, bigoted, not very bright, ready to trash anyone's constitutional rights, arrogant, slanderous, gossipy, borderline literate, racist, and proudly call themselves Democrats. Actually, in Brooklyn, we have a joke about that: After WWII, the Nazis fled to Argentina. After Jim Crow fell, the Dixiecrats fled to Gerritsen Beach. These cretins hide behind the American flag, but now that their despotic, bullying tendencies have been exposed, I fear that some liberal bloggers will try to pass these videos off as a Tea Party meeting.

Who is that loudmouthed "blonde" who dominates most of the sound track? If she cleaned herself up a bit personally, she'd have a heck of a career as a dominatrix.

Minors are not allowed, by Facebook, to have Facebook pages anyway, so are these parents allowing their children to lie about their ages to gain access to it? Just wondering....

Adam, I think you have just put your finger squarely on the source of the community outrage. When you have made a mistake or broken a law and gotten caught, there is no better tactic to distract attention from that fact than to scapegoat someone who is on the sidelines.
