Perez Hilton is a hypocrite

In a flamewar fit for queens, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton fired off a cease and desist letter to Youtube, threatening them with legal action if they did not remove an advertisement by the National Organization for Marriage which used footage that he himself put on the internet.

Turns out, Perez Hilton is a hypocritical little bitch.

The blogger, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, is a Miami native who has been sued several times for copyright violations after using videos and photos of celebrities without proper licensing.

His defense has always been the fair use doctrine, which allows limited use of copyrighted material if it contains news value.

But now that somebody is using one of his clips without permission, he is claiming that he is the victim of a copyright violation.

And although it is obviously not – at least on the grounds he has argued in the past – Youtube succumbed to his threats by removing the video.

But other bloggers have since uploaded it to their accounts, which is why I am able to present you with the above video.

Lavandeira also sent a cease and desist letter to the National Organization for Marriage to get them to remove the ad from its television markets.

But they did not bow down so easy. In fact, they plan to fight back, according to Simon Owens of Bloggasm.com.

The organization’s lawyers have already sent both a letter to YouTube asking it to reinstall the video and a reply (PDF) to Perez rejecting his copyright claim. But though it’s still not clear whether YouTube will comply with the request, at least one conservative blogger has defiantly uploaded the ad onto his own YouTube account and said he’d fight any copyright claims if Perez’s lawyers came after him.

The whole debacle began last month when Lavandeira got his panties in a twist during the Miss USA beauty pageant.

Lavandeira, who was one of the judges, asked Miss California her opinion on gay marriage.

Miss California, whose name is Carrie Prejean, said she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Lavandeira, who is openly gay and makes it a point to out anybody else he suspects of being gay, had a hissy fit.

After the ceremony, in which Prejean came in second, Lavandeira uploaded a video to Youtube where he called her “a dumb bitch.”

The video was so embarrassing that even Miami transvestite Elaine Lancaster responded with his (or her) own video supporting Prejean’s right to oppose gay marriage.

Adding to his embarrassment, Lavandeira was also dressed in an atrocious lime green jacket with a striped blue collared shirt, destroying the stereotype that gay men know how to dress sharply.

Meanwhile, Prejean, suddenly became the poster child for the anti-gay marriage movement and was recruited by the National Organization for Marriage to pick up where Anita Bryant left off in the 1970s.

NOM used the three-second clip where Lavandeira called Prejean a “dumb bitch” in its advertisement as an example of intolerant homosexuals who are out to ruin the sanctity of marriage.

However, it wasn’t long before Prejean’s Christian values were questioned because it was revealed that she has posed topless in the past and has had breast implants.

It was also revealed that she is dating Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps, whose image was tarnished after photographs showed him smoking marijuana out of a bong.

So far, only one topless photo of Prejean has surfaced and it doesn’t even show her nipple. However, there are rumors of more explicit photos floating around.

So it looks like Lavandeira won’t be the only one firing off cease and desist letters.

Good stuff and I agree on the fair use nonsense, but in a way he did make her a media star.

She’s the GOP’s next “Joe Plumber.”

Say, did you know Perez is gay? Seriously now, what bothers me about him is that he is in the habit of “outing” folks that are not ready or choose not to come out. That’s just plain mean.

Perez Hilton is no freedom fighter, that’s for sure. Thus his hypocrisy is not terribly surprising to me.

Well, you all knew this was gonna happen. Think about it – for one Carrie Prejean is pretty dang hot to begin with. I guess that is why she is “Miss California”. But if there are nude and topless pics like these 6 out there to be seen of a hot girl like this – you KNOW they are going to come out. Its a given. But can you blame people for not wanting to look. Oh, and the whole she is 17 thing – just an attempt to stop the spread of these pics but other interested parties. There are also rumors that these photos were originally leaked by Prejean herself. Yeah she may lose the crown but that will be nothing compared to the opportunities that are coming her way from this huge publicity spike (ala Vanessa Williams). Anyway – back to the 6 Prejean pics –

I mean look at these pics – she is smokin!

I don’t think he’s a hypocrite. They’re using his name to promote a cause he does not agree with. Any of us would do the same thing.

Admittedly, I don’t agree with a lot of his methods, but I wholeheartedly agree with this. You said it yourself, he gets sued all the time, he should be allowed to exercise that right as well. Clearly the point is to send a message, and as Florida said, he’s opposing it because they’re using it to promote a cause he doesn’t agree with.

I back Perez completely. He is actually a friend to a couple of my friends in Los Angeles and Miami…but aside from that…I agree with Florida and Cindy. Prejean is not only voicing her opinion by working with the National Organization for Marriage, she is using that to infringe on the rights of gay and lesbian individuals to prevent them from having the same rights she does to marry. So I really feel they should not be able to use Perez’s material without his permission since they are using it to promote the exact opposite point of view Perez stands for. If they truly support marriage, it doesn’t say “straight marriage”. Marriage is between 2 consenting and loving adults so maybe they should call themselves the National Organization for Straight Marriage else find themselves being hypocrites as well.

Bill, don’t want this to degenerate into a shouting match, but this is not and never has been the definition of marriage: “Marriage is between 2 consenting and loving adults”. That’s a made up definition for political reasons, it’s phony, fake and nonsense. Marriage has taken a lot of forms, mostly monogamous or polygamous, but has always been between men and women. Period.

I’ll back and have been backing Civil Unions for a long time. I’ve been backing gay rights since I was about 12 years old, but I don’t believe that everything someone wants is a right. Especially when they have to make phony definitions and history to get it. Sorry.

I would like to add that I don’t see this issue about being where you stand on the gay marriage issue.

I support gay marriage or civil unions or whatever you want to call it.

This is about Perez Hilton being a hypocrite.

NOM’s ad is nothing but a political ad. Perez Hilton’s video can be viewed in the same light because he is espousing his political views.

It is not unheard of for one political group to use video footage from another political group to prove their point.

Remember John McCain’s the “fundamentals of the economy are sound” or whatever it was he said.

He never lived that one down. And he shouldn’t have. He said that right before the economy crashed.

Now how would it have looked if he started sending cease and desist letters to the makers of those ads.

It would look petty.

And that is how Perez Hilton looks now.

Except more hypocritical.

Carlos,
I’m in complete agreement with you regarding Perez.

I railed over Bill’s false definition of marriage simply because it was used to call others hypocrites. If gays and lesbians had stuck with “civil union” it would probably be acccepted by now in most states. The word “marriage” intensified the opposition. It was a political mistake.

Carlos,

I like your site but I think you went a bit too gay-bashy for me on this one. You might want to tone done the anti-gay slant of this post (or future posts).

You seem to have an obvious dislike of Perez, which seems to be tainting your prose.

Examples:
“…flamewar fit for queens”
“…hypocritical little bitch”
“Lavandeira. . . had a hissy fit”
“…destroying the stereotype that gay men know how to dress sharply.”

Is all that venom really necessary? Would you use the same type of catty and stereotypical language if this was about someone Black? Or Latino? Or a police officer?

Carlos, you’re sounding very petty when you use language like that rather than sticking to the facts, which actually have some merits.

Quite a disappointing post.

Clearly, the irony went over your head.

I stooped myself down to PH’s level on this one.

If you think that’s ironic, you should look up irony in the dictionary. You did a piss poor job of trying to be ironic.

Anon-a-Blogger,

I’m a sarcastic person. This was a sarcastic post.

Perez Hilton calls Miss California a “dumb bitch”, I call him a “hypocritical little bitch”.

Perez Hilton rags on the way people dress on his blog, I mock the way he dresses on my blog.

Perez Hilton is a queen. He may even call himself that.

Is that a derogatory term? Or is it just something gay people can say about other gay people? Kind of like the N word?

If I were truly anti-gay, would I have bothered photographing a gay rights parade to write the following post?

Politicians, who are trying to sell us on their ideology, morals, and fitness for office should be held to a higher standard of criticism. We need and expect the opposing party to point out any discrepancies. Hilton is not running for office; he’s an individual who made a statement about an issue that effects him personally. I don’t think any organization has the right to use a non-consenting individual in an ad. This is not fair play. If he loses this one it might discourage people from speaking out about an issue that concerns them. Not good.

Jeffrey, you found this post hilarious? Really? It has no hint of irony or humor, except for his comment saying it was ironic. It really isn’t very funny, even as I read it again, trying to look for irony or a sense of humor.

Carlos, I have a pretty good sense of humor and am not gay. But this offended me nonetheless. I just think if you’re trying to be funny, or “ironic”, try a little harder to be obvious about it. A wink, a smile, something to show the reader: Hey, I understand what’s going on here, but I’m trying to be funny. You really didn’t give a sense of that.

Perez may call himself a queen, but that doesn’t give you the right to call him one. Again, if he was black, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t call him the N word. In fact, I dare you to do that in a future post. Why not? It’s ironic, right?

Anyway, the definition of hypocrite is saying one thing, while meaning another. That’s not what Perez was doing. He wasn’t betraying what he was saying.

So, what if I call you a little Spic. Does that mean it’s ironic, just because I say so? I can get away with that, right? I guess it gives me liberty to say anything I want to say. Same with the N word or Queer. Just because it’s accepted within their own community doesn’t mean it’s acceptable when used in a hateful or vindictive manner.

Words matter. It’s not funny or ironic. It’s stupid and mean and leave irony or humor or to people that know what it means. You should at least admit this wasn’t your best post,

Again, I like your blog and think you should stick to the facts of the stories you post. You really come across as someone very insensitive.

Anon-a-blogger,

All I can say is sorry you were offended.

But it’s really a stretch to compare the use of the word “queen” or “queer” to the use of the word “nigger”.

Maybe when we start enslaving homosexuals we can begin to compare the two. But until then, there is no comparison.

You can call me a “spic” all you want. That’s your right. And it’s up to me to determine how to take that.

I appreciate your input, your opinion and your straightforwardness.

I think we have given certain words too much power. Like when we go around saying the “N” word all we do is make the actual word more powerful. When I was a kid the dictionary defined that word as meaning a “lazy and shiftless person.”

Johnny Cochran and F. Lee Bailey used that word and called it the N word to play on the power of the word to get someone that murdered two people off. Somehow they turned that murder trail into a trail of who used the N word the most.

Chris Rock has the right idea. Use the word ‘nigger’ all the time till it has the same power as calling someone a jerk.

Perez does more harm than good, he recently posted photos of men in the moment of having sex! How is this ‘celebrity news’, how does him calling young children ugly, teenagers whores, and mocking those he finds to fat or to thin reporting?

As to this subject, he’s a POS. After posting graphic photos of two men having sex, he needs to not even follow up on this! TALK ABOUT AN INVASION OF PRIVACY!!!

Wow. Carlos, this post and your most recent comment is the reason why I’ll never visit your site again.

You wrote:

“But it’s really a stretch to compare the use of the word “queen” or “queer” to the use of the word “nigger”.”

Oh really? I dare you to yell these words to any black or gay person. A stranger would be best.

Then see their reaction to you. Do you think they’ll like it?

Also, ask a gay person if they like being called “queer”, especially in an aggressive way that you did in your original post. I dare you to do so. Just because this is a blog post, and not real life, it doesn’t give you the right to call people names just because of their sexual preference, or hair color, religion or whatever.

Then you wrote:
“Maybe when we start enslaving homosexuals we can begin to compare the two. But until then, there is no comparison.”

This comment was the most offensive of all. You really have no concept of what’s correct to say do you? Are you so dim-witted in real life?

Do you go around telling gays or other minorities that they weren’t enslaved so we can say whatever we want to you?

Wake up to how you use your hateful words. It’s very disgusting.

When I lived in San Francisco (actually Marin county but worked in San Fran) I lived with gays, even went to a gay bar, attending a once a week gay poker game, queer was used so often by my gay friends that it became meaningless. I found the same to be true when I left for the Southwest and made some new gay friends.

Really, it impresses me as a “we can use it but you can’t” bit of self-righteous hypocrisy. I can’t watch black comedians because every fifth word is “nigger”, an hypocrisy that makes me really angry.

Gays have so many slang nasty terms for heterosexuals, “breeder” is one I find really offensive, that they should talk about terms used by hetero’s.

There is such a substantial difference between being gay and being a slave, it would take a real moron to equate the two. But then there are a lot of morons out there.

As far as what is correct to say, who the hell are you to determine that? Working for the Canadian HRC’s by chance?
