Discovered Photography
Solitaire by Jackie Cytrynbaum is available for purchase as a 14″x9″ for $450 at DiscoveredArtists. It’s a splendidly wonderful piece evoking emotions reminiscent of a disoriented daydream. I love it.
Twenty-year-old Ana Cuba lives, works and studies in Barcelona, Spain. Our friends at Feature Shoot have a great piece on this truly talented photographer . I’m soooo inspired.
Congrats go out to Chessa as she’s gotten published in F-Stop mag for a second time. Stop by her blog and tell send her some props!
It’s actually snowing where I live (this never happens!) so I’m kinda longing to be somewhere else. Paris perhaps. This fantastic image taken at le Louvre isn’t helping either.
Over at Burn Magazine there’s a great write up on an image of cutouts?? It’ll make you think. It made me think.
Photography Tips
Mostly Lisa, who is mostly fabulous, has a great article on taking better portraits . She should know. She’s been in front of the camera as much as behind it.
Post Processing
Jason D. Moore demonstrates how simple and effective using plugins can be.
Photo Gear
Choosing Lenses can be really tough. There are so many things to consider. DPS has a great article that may help you get past the complexities of getting the right lens for you .
Over at Strobist David Hobby is going against his own grain by highlighting BIG strobes . Hint: I’ve recommended these before. They’re affordable, durable, and did I mention affordable?
It’s almost Christmas! I have my eye on the Canon PowerShot G11 (I won’t get it but I can want can’t I?) and this review is only making me long for the camera even more.
Art of Photography
Chase Jarvis has some interesting thoughts on the happenings outside the Louvre during a very large photo gala. Part of me agrees. Part of me doesn’t. That’s life. That’s art.
Your Photo Tips News
I’m gonna start using this section to highlight developments and to inform you of things that change and all that jazz.
We’ve been getting many emails about the Exposure Community’s quiet and quick demise. Yes…it’s frustrating. There were back end issues dealing with the Ning platform and I guess they couldn’t fix it. Total let down on so many levels. We are looking at alternatives but I want to make sure that the next software platform we use will allow me to actually get my hands dirty (so to speak) should something go wrong. In the meantime, I do recommend our Flickr Group as a place to hold you over. It’s not as active as it used to be but I’m willing to bet that will change soon.
We’ve also been getting some emails about the Photography Book Club. Where did it go? As a regular feature it just didn’t quite take off like I wanted it to. We had very little participation (no one was sending in their own reviews) and so we’re just taking it to a different direction. I’ll be changing that page to a photography book reviews page and moving a few things around. Don’t worry, we’ll still be doing book reviews, but they’ll most likely end up being new books sent in by publishers.
We’ll be adding in more posts than just the average of 5 a week. There will be posts done over the weekend and some days will include multiple posts. This is to ensure that we get enough tips on photography while still providing book reviews, news, press releases and all that other stuff you’ve grown to love here at Your Photo Tips.
Don’t forget to visit our sister site Your Photo Promo for tips and ideas on marketing your photography.
Also, I’d like to get some more Q&A’s in as posts so please feel free to use the contact form to submit a question about photography.
Have a great weekend everyone!

hi damien.
fantastic tips, have subscribed, and bookmarked you.
That Solitaire piece is fantastic. Has a very vintage feel to it, which seems to be complemented by the fluorescent lighting.
That Canon PowerShot G11 looks like a great camera. I like the rotating LCD, and find the reasoning behind the less sensitive sensor interesting, to say the least, but it seems like another quantity vs quality debate that needs to be put to the test.
Thanks for the link round ups. I've followed the last 2 and they had a few gems in them.
