Top 5 Favorite Podcasts about Photography

On a recent assignment I spent several hours in the car listening to a variety of podcasts about photography and the photo industry. Many were interviews with photographers, art buyers and photo editors and I found them fascinating and a great way to pass the time while driving for hours on end. They also really helped to spark creative ideas and got me thinking about how I will approach upcoming projects and portfolio shoots. Hence, I thought I'd share with you here my top five favorite podcast series, all of which are available for free on iTunes:
Depth of Field: Produced and created by Matt Brandon these are a great series of podcasts where Matt interviews a wide variety of professional photographers and talks with them about their work. His interviews with Nevada Wier, Zach Arias, Bob Krist, David DuChemin and Ami Vitale are particularly interesting. As a disclaimer, Matt also did an interview with me in July 2010, which is how I found out about his podcasts but nevertheless they are extremely well done. You can find the Depth of Field podcasts on iTunes here and you can check out Matt's Depth of Field website here.
Camera Dojo: Produced and created by Kerry Garrison, the Camera Dojo podcasts cover a wide variety of topics in the photography genre and Kerry is an excellent host. Of note are interviews with Chase Jarvis, Mark Robert Halper, Gary Fong and Syl Arena. And again as a disclaimer, Kerry also did an interview with me way back in 2009. You can find the Camera Dojo podcasts on iTunes here and you can check out the Camera Dojo website here.
Adbase Insight Podcasts: For the working professional there is nothing like hearing potential clients speak about what they like and don't like in promotional materials or having art directors, art buyers and photo buyers talk about their latest projects and how they work with photographers. These podcasts let you hear behind the scenes interviews with photo buyers working for brands such as Nike, Wired Magazine, Outside Magazine and also some of the hottest advertising agencies in the world. If you are a working pro you owe it to yourself and your business to listen in. You can find the Adbase Insight podcasts on iTunes here and you can check out the Adbase blog here.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom: While this podcast series is a bit older and no new podcasts are being produced, George Jardine did a fantastic job creating these podcasts while he was the Lightroom Evangelist at Adobe and they are still very interesting to listen to. These podcasts range from interviews with working pro photographers (like Jay Maisel, Nevada Wier, Maki Kawakita, Pete Turner, Steve McCurry and many others) to in-depth discussions about software, printing and a variety of other photo related topics. George made an effort to talk more about issues in photography and less about software. These are well worth a look. George set the bar really high and these were some of the first podcasts anywhere on photography. You can find the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom podcasts on iTunes here.
Pro Photography Show: The host Gavin Seim talks about a wide variety of photography related topics aimed at pros, amateurs and photo enthusiasts. If you are looking to improve your photography these are great podcasts to listen to. You can find the Pro Photography Show podcasts on iTunes here.
I hope you find these podcasts interesting and give them a listen. Thats's it for this week.
