Police tried their best to intimidate me last night (video)
The good news is that I managed to shoot video on South Beach last night without getting arrested.
The bad news is that I apparently ran into the cop who arrested me last year and didn’t even recognize him.
It looks like David Socarras allowed his hair and beard to grow out, which is why I didn’t recognize him.
But he recognized me.
When he realized that there was a chance that I had not recognized him, he asked “remember me?” as you will see in the video.
Perhaps I would have recognized his new look had he shown up to my trial.
But he failed to do so twice.
In the video, you will also see how police used intimidation tactics to scare me from shooting video.
It’s starts off with one cop asking me “what are you doing?” when it was obvious I was shooting video.
He then asked if I was media, which is irrelevant because everybody has the right to shoot video.
I was on the phone at the time, so I didn’t really get into that with him. Besides, it was still early.
Then an undercover cop walks up to me with his drug-sniffing dog as I was videotaping a bunch of cops making an arrest in the hopes that I would have drugs on me.
Below is the photo I took of Socarras last year as well as frames from the recent video.
You tell me, is this the same guy or what?

What happened to his arm tattoo?

the new facial hair isn’t helping him much I have seen better looking dogs
Oh, wait, the other guy makes more sense. That does look like him.
Dan Linehan´s last blog ..Wagist Will Return on June 12th
he was hoping you would do something so he could arrest you again..
It’s the same guy. Even with the long hair and beard, the facial features are the same. Also, why else would he taunt you by saying “Remember me?”

All assholes look alike.
I don’t think it’s the same guy. Just his cute way of saying Why are you filming/obsessed w/ me? At any rate, what better response to Do you remember me than your answer: ” Should I?” Love it! Anyway, If it was the same guy he def spent more time agonizing about the one that got away AND clearly got the unmistakable message to leave cameramen alone and get back to work. And what’s with trying to look like a lowlife colin farrell? Nice try, but he looks more like a psychotic wife beater.
They did not bust you? Augh, your slipping, got to try harder.
I do think you got there number, got there chain jerked and are a little frustrated.Had his there ass reamed and ordered to leave you alone.
Ugh, did not get busted? Got to try harder.
Looks like you got there number. He probably had his ass reamed and told to leave you alone.
They can just make the dog alert whenever they want to anyways, what a bunch of filth, they clearly don’t like being filmed. What was this? A walk by check stop for drugs? Do they just set up in the street and then violate everyone’s contitutional rights? Don’t they have murders and robberies to solve? How much did tax payers spend to have these retards stand in the street all night? They looked like a gang themselves, a gang of whores asking passers by for tribute. What a bunch of assholes.
Get some help Carlos. You are a very sick man.
They really, really hate the spotlight.
They were definately aiming for you as proved by the dog part. Hilarious in a way but next time after they see this video you won’t be so lucky. They can _always_ arrest you and make something up as you know from personal experience.
Sorry about the double up back there. I am just an old line photographer and miss film, can’t get used to these new fangled do dads. Where’s my Kodachrome?
Watch out! I believe they have been told to watch it with you and probably received a reaming over it. This will not set well and they will hold a grudge, expect a plan to “get you”. Possibly using planted drugs and manufactured evidence. Remember the lady in Atlanta.
If it’s the same guy then the year has not been kind to him. David Socarras has a face that needs to be photographed. This guy, not so much.
Also the deal with the dog. Socarras would have known you aren’t carrying drugs and cameras at the same time.
Ooooooo such impressive gang shirts they wear.
Only one gang is allowed— and it is the government.
Doesnt look it, the hair line looks a bit different, and the eye brows look a bit different, but then again Im not the one who got arrested
“Do you remember me?”
“Listen Honey, I am so over you.” ;^P
So says the troll that has never offered anything worth reading to the site.
Roger, I don’t think they’re making it any more!!
Right on!
Rusty. Yes I know. I do miss it, nothing else was/is quite the same.
carlos, couldnt you tell it was him by the stench of “shit”?
Man, I just found your site and how thankful I am. I’m from Portland and found the info about our Police Dept’s policy. Just had an incident yesterday with cops intimidating our neighborhood bum.
This takes guts, and man I hope everyone goes out armed with a camera. This is a great example for the rest of us.
Do you know me?
Why? What have you heard?
Why? Are you famous?
Sorry buddy, I’m straight.
No, but if you hum a few bars I’ll fake it.
Mom? Is that you? Wow! I guess those Swedish doctors really DO know what they are doing.! Where’s Dad?
No, sorry I don’t. Short term memory loss. Know what I mean?
I know you! You play the short kid with the orange parka on South Park, right? Hey, you’re a great actor, man. Wait a minute… I thought you were dead! So tell me. does Chef really bang every girl on the set? Hey! Can you introduce me to Cartman’s mom?
You were told to ‘keep moving.’ Is there any legal justification for you to not walk away when they tell you to?
They really have no right to tell me to keep moving unless I am directly interfering with their investigation, which I wasn’t, or unless there was an expectation of danger, such as a guy being held up in his home with guns.
Neither was the case here.
That is why that second cop who obviously was in command told me to just get on the sidewalk.
Carlos Miller´s last blog ..What are the odds of me getting arrested this weekend?
They look like a gang trying to protect their turf. Why so many all in one place? Is that the only place in all of Miami Beach where crime might occur? Miami Beach PD FAIL.
Carlos, I really appreciate all you do, and I love this site. But I have to say, man, it kinda feels like you were purposefully bugging the cops, ‘picking a fight’ if you will. While I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with that, it does hurt your credibility a bit. Just sayin’.
Joe,
You should ask, Why does it bug the cops to be video taped? It’s not against the law. They have no problem video taping civilians (and for the past 8 years, bugging our phones, data mining our internet use). What is the objection?
It’s this.
As long as it comes down to their word against the defendant’s, they have no worries, and little chance of losing. They can say what they want, and justify their actions.
If they are being video taped, they have to follow the laws they enforce. They HATE that. (but I’m all for it)
Keep it up Carlos!
I don’t see anything wrong with keeping a camera trained on them at all times even if there wasn’t any “action.” That’s how the cameraman in Seattle was able to capture those “cops” stomping on the suspect’s head. There was a lot of dead time in that video also but I’m glad he kept shooting!
Nice video, Carlos. Superman has Kryptonite, Achilles had his heel and cops have the camera. These guys were squirming like a work on a hook in front of the camera. As a taxpayer that contributes to their salary, I would like to know why. Why are cops only interested in people with cameras?

You have quite a different take on things than most of us here.
I remember when I was 12 and thought the Miami Vice TV show was the coolest thing ever. I wonder if Colin Ferrell knows David Suckass (spelling?) is impersonating him.

Caaaaarrrlos…come out an’ plaaaaayyy.
Some heavy rep—the Furies would wreck these guys.
Hey Carlos,
Just curious, but have any of the subjects of your videos or photos posted on your blog? (cops or perps/victims)
Only one thing is clear from those photos: that guy is one ugly pig.

He really needs some lessons in grooming. Maybe he’s having some kind of breakdown so he lost his ability to take care of his personal hygiene. I can’t believe they allow him to look like that. Sets a really bad first impression of the dept he works for. He kind of looks like a homeless bum.

I know, I usually do have a different way of seeing things than most people. Some call it a curse, I call it rational objective thought.
Call it what you want, we see through it no matter how much window dressing you want to put on it.
Wow, an entire weekend with the video camera and the best you come up with is a bunch of cops standing around? Jimmy Olsen would be proud. You should stick to cutting and pasting stories from the internet.
Wow! An entire weekend of posting, and it took you that long to come up with something “clever” to say about this vid? Mom would be proud.
Rance, lets not feed this troll. A straight dose of benign neglect is probably the key here.
You probably taught Socarr-ass a lesson.
Don’t start battles (eg frivolous arrests) that you can’t possibly end up winning. Otherwise he would have been at ya.
My guess on his appearance change.
He found a copy of Serpico in his mom’s
dresser and there was no going back.
Found this thread to be very entertaining, defiantly made a other wise boring week end.
I would recommend that we all carry a covert video/audio camera with remote xmtr capability ( transmits to a remote recorder). Use your normal camera as always but have this one disguised as a button, or pin, or whatever. This way when they go for the main camera this will record back up and hopefully not be found until the strip search, at which time it will be too late. When they do and realize that the content is now in Texas, or some where, you can imagine the the cold twist in there guts.
Also, I think we should form a self defense organization with attack lawyers to defend and sue, sue , sue.
I always stand by Qik. It sends video from a cell phone remotely to a server so no matter what…police can’t delete it even if they confiscate your phone.
Carlos, those guys were just itching to arrest you….you could see it in their eyes.
How pathetic they even had the dog sniff you out. So lame.

That dog sniff may be a warrant less search and there full illegal. Worth considering.
