Push The Envelope
Fear.
Failure.
Experimentation.
Innovation.
There's no easy way to go about tackling these thoughts and ideas. We all have fears that can hinder our growth as artists. The act of making photographs, not taking pictures, is a deep desire that pushes the artist to create.
That desire can only take you so far.
That desire can be hindered by fear. Just as it can be hindered by failure. They are not the same so we're looking at more than one obstacle.
Fear of failure does tie them together by inhibiting the drive towards innovation. It can block the path to experimentation. Experimentation is the path that can lead to new ideas. It's where art lives and breathes. It's where ideas are born and given a chance to thrive. But it can't be done in the confines of fear.
Without failure there is no innovation. Without failure we do not learn from experimentation.
It's okay to have fear, but you cannot let it hinder your process as artist. You cannot be afraid to fail.
Make photographs that push envelopes.
Make art that makes people think.
Do not be afraid.
