Rechargeable Batteries for Photographers
There’s one thing about film photography that I miss; not having to mess with so many dang batteries! If you’re like me and you have multiple cameras and flashes then you probably waste tons of money on batteries.
Most compact digital cameras and off camera flashes use AA batteries. They also tend to use them up really really fast. A good set of rechargeable batteries will save your wallet and perhaps save the planet as well.
I always suggest that photographers use rechargeable batteries but to also have a set of alkaline batteries in your camera bag just in case. You never know…
If you’re using AA’s then I suggest the eneloop rechargeable batteries by Sanyo.

What’s so special about those particular batteries?
Here are some specs straight off of Amazon:
- Pre-charged and ready to use right out of the pack; preserves charge for long periods of time
- Extremely slow self-discharge rate maintains 85 percent of capacity after 1 year of storage
- Combines best features of AA alkaline (ready for use) and rechargeable (reusable) batteries
- Can be charged up to 1,000 times (including partially) without experiencing memory effect

I use these same rechargeables in my speedlights! It makes them recycle 10x as fast.
Thanks for pointing these out. I've been eyeing them in the store but hate investing in rechargeables not knowing if they are good or not! Maybe I can use my flash for more than an hour without having to change batteries now....
Excellent. Dual usage, one ofcourse juicing your batteries and then also save the environment., wow it's a great stuff.
Frankly speaking, which are the good aa lithum battery brands that you would recommend? Sony?
What would we do without rechargeable batteries ... the idea of it scares me.
Using rechargeable batteries not only saves the planet because they last longer so you use less of them but they can also be recycled at the nonprofit, www.call2recycle.org. Thanks for the other great photo tips.
