Release of Nikon D4 delayed

Release of the Nikon D4, the new 'flagship' Nikon D-SLR has apparently been put back to March 2012

An unnamed Nikon USA Public Relations representative is being quoted as saying a "minor production delay" has caused the worldwide release of the Nikon D4, the company's new professional digital SLR, which had originally been scheduled for February 16th, 2012, to be pushed back until mid-March. Another unconfirmed report suggests that finalisation of the camera's firmware has taken longer than expected, so the release date has slipped to March 12th.

Whatever the reason(s) behind the delay may be, it appears that dealers can now expect they will not start taking delivery of the D4 until the beginning of March at the earliest.

The D4 was announced on January 6th. It features a new 16.1-million pixel, FX-format (24 x 36 mm) CMOS sensor, 10 fps shooting rate with full AF and AE capabilities, a normal ISO range of 100-12,800 (extendable to 50-204,800), an enhanced 51-point AF system that enables autofocusing down to a maximum aperture of f/8, all-new 91,000-pixel RGB ambient/flash metering sensor, twin memory card slots (CompactFlash and XQD format), EXPEED 3 image processing, 1080p video capture with audio monitoring and optional uncompressed video output via the HDMI port, built-in Ethernet, remote control via its HTTP server mode using web browsing software, a new EN-EL18 battery, in-camera HDR and time-lapse movie functions, all in a magnesium alloy body shell sealed against the ingress of dust and moisture.
