Rent Camera Gear in Paradise
Here’s the scenario: You’re on vacation in Hawaii (nice) and you’ve schlepped all, or most, of your gear with you because you KNOW that you’re going to be taking tons of pictures while you’re there. Everything is going smoothly until…something breaks or you discover you forgot something!
Enter Hawaii Photo Rental to the rescue!
Hawaii Photo Rental is a service that let’s you get that needed lens rental while you’re away from the mainland. It’ll save your trip if you need it to.
A couple years back I was shooting a location wedding out of the country and we were having problems with one of our cameras. It would power on then power right back off. The battery was fully charged. One minute it was working fine, the next minute it’s just not working.
I’m not a camera tech, and neither was my partner, so we fiddled with every button and setting we could think of. Fortunately for us we had backups. This was a paid gig so we followed all of the necessary steps “just in case”.
But what if I didn’t have a backup? Not every photographer has multiple cameras that they take with them everywhere.
Or what if you just don’t want to carry all of your gear with you because of airline weight restrictions? Or maybe you’re thinking you want to try out a nice new wide angle lens for your Canon 7D while you’re there? Hawaii Photo Rental can help you with whatever Canon lens rental you need while you’re visiting the islands. They carry Nikon lenses and bodies as well.
They’ve got an easy to navigate site with tons of information and slew of accessories you might need while you’re visiting Hawaii looking for great photographic scenery. You’ll find waterhousings and lighting equipment.
It looks like they only carry Nikon and Canon stuff right now and they’re based in Oahu so there are some limitations but if I’m on the islands and I’m in need of some gear, for whatever reason, I’m giving these guys a call.
It’s good to know that there’s a place in Hawaii for those who have photographic equipment failures to get there hands on a new camera body or whatever they need. I’m happy to know that the next time I’m in Oahu there’s a business that can handle a Hawaii lens rental “just in case”.

You're also aware of Lighthaus Camera with their stores on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island (of Hawaii), and their camera rentals?
I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the heads up!
While I do have to carry the equipment I rent I find that borrowlenses and rentglass.com provide awesome service. Thanks for posting as I will be returning to the Aloha state 4 more times within the next 12 months and I will look into renting on the island to avoid carrying the items
I'd like to add lensrentals.com (widest selection) and thelensdepot.com to the mix. I've used them and Borrow Lenses.
I often use them to supplement my current stock and try out different lenses or bodies. A nice way to try before you buy as well.
