Rest In Peace, Steve Jobs

Apple announces its founder has passed away

By Haje Jan Kamps

I'm perfectly happy to admit that it's a little bit curious to be sad about the death of a man I've never met... But there can be little argument that Steve Jobs' impact on the worlds of technology and - indirectly - photography have been absolutely immeasurable.

My thoughts go out to his wife and his four kids - and all the others he leaves behind.

Steve Jobs, thank you for being a strong and inspirational figure.

Editor's note: All of us here at Pixiq are saddened by the death of Steve Jobs. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and to everyone who was touched by Steve Jobs. RIP Steve.

Steve Jobs was a visionary.

I've been an unapologetic Apple fanboy for over a decade. I still remember my first Mac. I have it sitting in the corner of my office just collecting dust. When I think about how much of my work is done so much easier because of Apple products it blows my mind.

I spend less time worrying about, and fixing, issues with my Mac than I do my PC. I use my iPhone to take pictures (very often) and to connect with readers and other photographers on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

I've started doing more work on my iPad as well. Whether it's social media or editing iPhone photos on my iPad it's all helped shape me into the photographer I am today.

Rarely will you catch me out with my camera in hand without a pair of earbuds connecting me to music or a photography podcast.

RIP Steve Jobs.

And thank you, for everything.

What ever your opinion of Apple and its business model, Mr. Jobs had a major impact on personal computing and entertainment electronics. Not to mention that Apple computers played a role in the development of digital photography.

I fear that over time Apple will lose their focus and creative edge much like they did after Jobs left in '85. While I likely will never own an Apple product, losing that force in the industry is only going to be a negative for all of us, no matter what computing and entertainment platforms we chose.

Mr. Jobs will be missed.

rest in peace the great innovator! I hope everyone has something to learn from him...
