Samsung Introduces NX100
A smarter interchangeable lens digital camera with no mirror
Samsung Electronics today announced the Samsung 14MP NX100 – a mirrorless camera equipped with what the company says is the world’s first i-Function lens. The mirrorless camera category is relatively new with regards to digital cameras (they resemble film rangefinder cameras in shape). The NX100—available in black or brown—was introduced with a line of lenses. Samsung’s NX100 features an APS-C sized image sensor, which is the size utilized in most of the non-full-frame DSLRs. What makes this camera truly unique is that users will be able to control the camera through its i-Function lens. The i-Function button on the lens will let photographers scroll through manual settings while the focus ring will allow for changes to be made. We’ll be interested to see how ergonomic this design is during actual use. The lenses are also supposed to better communicate with the NX100 body and automatically configure settings for that lens type.
Other features include an ISO range up to 6400, a ‘smart filter’ that lets you apply cool effects to images during playback, HD movie recording at 720p, and much more. At launch, Samsung announced a 20-50mm lens and soon to be introduced 20mm pancake lens. An optional GPS module will let you geotag images.
