Shoot The Moon on March 19th
Super Moon, The Largest Since 1993
Get your cameras and tripods ready, the largest moon since 1993 will come up over the horizon on Saturday, March 19th. So grab your strongest tripod, your longest lens, and shoot the moon, so to speak. What a great chance to get moon shots you can add to your personal stock in case you need a moon photo to add to a composition.
The moon travels in an elliptical orbit around the earth. As a result we have a a "far" moon, Apogee, and a "near" moon, Perigee. The Perigee moon, which is what we will see on the 19th, is about 50,000 Kilometers closer to the Earth than an Apogee moon. This is as close as it gets and this "Super Moon" on the 19th will appear on the horizon to be 14% to 19% larger than we usually see, depending on the source quoting the size. But since there is no yard stick on the moon as far as how we see it, the percentage is just a guess on anyone's part. In any case, it'll be a big moon.
For more information, check out the NASA website. They have a lot of info and a video.
