So if you're looking to buy a camera ...
Since launching this blog in April 2007, I briefly experimented with blog ads through Google Ad Sense, but I got rid of them when I realized they were bringing in only a handful of dollars to promote companies that I would not personally endorse.
However, I was just invited to join the affiliate program of B&H Photo and Video, which is a company I fully endorse. I’ve been buying from them for years and make it a point to visit their main store in Manhattan when I visit New York.
As many photographers have learned, it’s easy to get burned when purchasing through an online company, as I personally learned back in March 1999 when I was first getting acclaimed with the Internet and attempted to buy through a company called “Photo Graphic Photo and Video,” which I hope has since gone out of business. I’ve since learned that B&H Photo is the way to go.
So if you’re looking to buy a camera or any other technical gadget, why not support Photography is Not a Crime by clicking on the B&H Photo ad in the top right sidebar to make your purchase?
For each purchase made through one of these click-throughs, B&H will throw a few dollars my way, which will go towards maintenance of this site.
Now I wonder if Canon has an affiliate program.

Ha. I eventually talked myself out of a DSLR… I know that the original Rebel is fairly inexpensive, but I like the idea of the sonic-vibe cleaner that the XTi and XSi come with…
Further, the XSi seems to have an overall improved interface from the XTi. But that’s with a 700 price tag.
Any personal takes from you, Carlos?
Maz,
I’m not sure what year the original Rebel DSLR came out, but DSLRs have made huge advancements in recent years, so it might be best to get something newer.
But having said that, it’s better to invest in top of the line lenses than top of the line cameras.
The difference between the XTi and XSi looks like it just boils down to an extra 2 MPs and a live viewfinder, but 10.1 MP is huge as it is.
The XSi also has the Digic III image processor, which I’m not familiar with because I am still using the ancient 5D, which came out in 2006.
The Digic ip is basically a face detection instrument, so it might come in handy during contrasty lighting situations.

Here is a side by side comparison that goes into detail. Be sure to click on the review links.

I have an AE-1 35mm camera with several high quality lenses. I’m not buying a DSLR until i can find one that assures me that those lenses will work (hint: rebel bodies don’t like my lenses, i don’t believe.)
But i’ll purchase through your company. Did you switch to hostmonster? I wonder if i can get you referral money, since the website i am designing is through that hosting company as well.
(see link)
we got that email the other day too. was it from Isaac Buchinger
genewitch,
I don’t know if Canon will ever make a DSLR for those lenses.
I got lucky because I had an Elan IIe film camera before I went digital, which is an EOS, so I was able to use my lenses.
I haven’t switched hosts yet because I’ve just been avoiding the whole damn thing, but I would like to do it on a weekend when traffic is light in case the blog goes down, which I’m sure it will for a while.
You didn’t provide a link.
Oh, I get it, the link on your name.
Discarted,
Yep, it was the same Isaac. I figured it’s worth a shot to see if I make a few bucks. At least it’s an ad that corresponds with my site, unlike the ones Google Ad Sense were giving me.
Are you going to apply?
Thanks for your kind words. They’re very gratifying and much appreciated.
(Aside to genewitch). I am 100% certain you will not see a digital SLR with a Canon FD lens mount ever.
