Sulia Photography Channel: Top Photography Content on Twitter From Top Photographers

Initially I was just going to post a link to this on the last week’s Weekly Photography Links but I thought it deserved a little more attention as I looked deeper into it.

Sulia

Sulia is a Twitter aggregate content stream provider that’s doing things a bit differently.

From their about page:

“Sulia continuously identifies the most respected experts on each subject and provides only their on-topic updates.”

How do they do this?

“Sulia is built on Twitter, programmed by a team of editors based in New York City, and powered by the TLISTS engine, a growing subject-based index of more than two million Twitter accounts. Sulia combines crowdsourcing, human insight, and machine learning to bring you the best real-time channels on any subject.”

Pretty cool.  They have tons of content and channels specific to whatever interests just about anyone from top Twitter users.

I was notified by the Sulia team that my personal Twitter account had been deemed “expert” in their Photography UberChannel.  That was nice.  I gave myself a little pat on the back and went about my way.

Then I was notified that the Your Photo Tips Twitter account was also deemed “expert”.  This was something else entirely.

See, there’s a huge difference in the content that’s pushed through on both of those Twitter accounts.  My personal account is mostly art and photography related and I share stuff from all over the web, not just from Your Photo Tips, and occasionally I will get a little political because I simply can’t help myself.  The Your Photo Tips twitter account, however, is almost 100% dedicated to pushing content related to this site.

The Your Photo Tips Twitter account getting recognition is a big deal to me.

You deserve a big thank you.  You are the ones that put the Your Photo Tips Twitter account in your Twitter lists and said “this content is important to me”.  To say that we’re honored is a huge understatement.

Photography Channel

So how good is the content on Sulia’s Photography Channel?

It’s really good.

The basic idea of aggregating and parsing the top most listed Twitter users who talk about photography and are followed and listed by other Twitter users who talk about photography means you get some of the most trusted content on Twitter about photography.

And because Sulia uses keywords to pull the content from these “experts” you only get the photography content.  You won’t have to worry about hearing me rant about the environment, politics, or whatever I happen to be ranting about that isn’t photography related.  This also means you won’t have to hear about what Scott Bourne or Chase Jarvis had for breakfast or that Scott Kelby checked in at Subway on foursquare.

You only get photography content from top photography Twitter users.

Sulia’s Photography Channel has been a great addition to the information streams that I keep up with.  It doesn’t really replace any of my own Twitter lists, rather it supplements them very nicely.

Sulia channels are also available via XML and JSON feeds and have already been integrated into the world’s most popular social apps and sites like TweetDeck, FlipBoard, and UberTwitter and Mashable.

Your turn:

Go check out Sulia’s Photography Channel and let us know what you think!  Are there any other places online or applications you use to keep up with photography news and information?

Wow love the tips you guys have, but you don't seem to mention camera cases. This place has some great camera cases with ultra foam lining inside as well. Just a recommended resource for any of your guests. http://caseman.com
