The Day Nikon Turned Down Photoshop

An article at NikonWeb describes the early days in electronic imaging at the Nikon Corporation

A number of interesting pieces of information concerning Nikon's first steps into electronic imaging have emerged this week in an article published at NikonWeb.com. According to author Alan Bartlett, a leading light in the early days of the Nikon Corporation's electronic imaging division in Europe during the 1990s, the company was among a number of key photographic industry players, including Kodak, who declined the offer of a licensing deal with Thomas and John Knoll during 1988 for their software product - Photoshop. The two brothers subsequently secured an arrangement with Adobe and Photoshop 1.0 for Mac was launched in 1990. Bartlett also discusses the company's early image scanning / transmitting devices, a foray into the world of still video cameras, and development of the first Nikon D-SLR, the E2/E2s.
