The Impossible Project- Shooting on Polaroid cameras!

Ever since watching Chase Jarvis' video of him shooting on 10 different formats while in New York, I've been inspired to try new formats. I bought a Yashica Mat EM and a Polaroid SLR 680 last week.

I got a great deal on the Polaroid, and couldn't wait to try it out. I immediately took it down to the Impossible Project space on Broadway here in New York. The folks there are incredibly helpful. Even if you don't plan on shooting instant film, it's a great exhibition space with lots of amazing photos and old cameras for your viewing pleasure.

I picked up a pack of PX 600 Silver Shade film with the black frame. As you can see from the photos above, there are some imperfections in some of the photos. The film didn't develop all the way up the image. This can be easily fixed in photoshop, as can the color shifts that happen. Some shots are obviously warm orange tones, while other are more grey and black and white. This all depends on the temperature when the photos are being taken.

Some people might think that $25 for 8 imperfect photos is a lot to spend, but I think it's a bargain. Each photo is unique and unpredictable. You don't know what to expect until you pull off that dark slide a couple minutes after you take the photo. (This film is still light sensitive after it pops out of the camera unlike the old polaroid film, so you must keep it covered for a minute or 2).

Amazon has some cheap Cameras for sale such as this one and you can read more about The Impossible Project here.

If anyone has any examples of their own Impossible photos post links below!

The Impossible Project Space looks incredible and I will visit. I think I will get myself a cheap Polaroid on Amazon and see what i can come up with. I love the imperfection and anticipation that comes with this format!
